It’s a really nice room. I think it is fun to work within some fixed ”givens” of a house or inherited furniture. Lets you be creative and personal! I also think the paneling solves the ”problem” of artwork for the walls. But then the curtain and the chandelier should be just what you like best.

Here is an example of the way Italians hold up their curtains, which is easier and quicker than tie-up shades. But many of the ”fasteners” I have seen have been hand-painted ceramic disks, or maybe metal filigree, with a silk or organza ribbon, something more upscale than these.

There is a limit to how much weight a magnet tie like this can hold. I think typical American tie-ups and Austiran ’balloons” can also be delightful in the right space, but they are harder to do with two windows side by side.

Personally I happen to hate Roman shades and have never understood their popularity, but these quasi-romans appeal to me (they are actually held up with velcro). Grain sack is only right for some houses, and the problem with all shades like these is that if you like seeing the whole window and its woodwork, you lose that. And you often lose the full light of afternoons depending which direction your window faces.

Depending on the style of the rest of the house and what you like and what you hate (and how much privacy you need, I think old fashioned lace or macrame could be very charming in your room with a crystal chandelier,

You can’t go wrong with neutral drapery on a black rod. Be sure rod is long enough so panels rest more on wall than window and is placed half way between frame and ceiling. If closing, double width is recommended.

Keeping to this classic, simple treatment will allow art and accessories to be the focus vs a window treatment.

Also suggest waiting until everything is in place before deciding on a crystal chandelier. Lighting can have a huge influence in pulling a room together and I’d be heading less formal and modern.

Such a pretty room! my bet is you will need longer than the standard 84” that a lot of panels come in - Ballard Designs has some nice choices that are not too expensive and will accomodate the length you need

JCPenny often has terrific neutral panels for drapes at great prices.

I like an area rug in a dining room. It “anchors” the space.

Are you keeping the chairs? Have you considered shutters? If the chairs stay, then your chandelier will be best repeating that black or dark oil rubbed bronze. Coordinate new entry light with dining room too. Consider a upholstered set of host chairs or possibly slipcovers to dress up room a bit. I think a rug is very important for a finished look.

Before all that decorating … the first thing I would do is put in a wall to create a foyer.. avoiding walking right into the dining room … from the street

In a smaller room like this, shutters save a lot of space. If you do drapery avoid grommets because they stick out into room about 6”. If you pick a patterned rug and do drapery select a white that goes with your wainscoting and just plain look hung from rod about midway between top of window and ceiling.

What does your plate display look like? I thought I noticed black/white.

Good morning. Yes, they’re blk & wht . What do you think of hanging the plates in a line above the board & batten? I can display the taureen , etc else where.
This is what they look like. It’s not a harsh blk, more of a dark charcoal color ( they’re very old).

I like the black and white chandelier 12 arm I think , European style. It would pick up on the dark chairs and plates. I can definitely do slip covers or get a couple upholstered chairs to dress it up. Blk curtain rod with white drapes?

and white curtains with a subtle pattern of cutwork or a simple trim

So it doesn’t appear from photos that the view out the window is important, so I would make the focal point of the room the wall. I would like a truly lovable piece of furniture there, and think I would like a mirror as part of the arrangment with the transferware. I might ”smoke” or blur the mirror and/or display the plates in front of it, upright.

I think I would put sheers on the windows just to blur the view. To the left of the window I’d go for a fantastic plant on a pedestal. In some ways, I’d ”underdecorate” the room. It has to me the feel of a cozy old world tea room, so I’d keep it low key and modest, just a few treasures.

Have you tried turning the table the other way?

I also liked the ”up flower” fixture from Quorum someone showed before. It’s very cheerful if you want a cheeerful look for the room.
