Blooming on Friday

The temperatures were a little cooler last night and the plants don't seem to be as stressed. Here is what's blooming today.

A Little Crabby was added last year and these are the first flowers we have seen. It is a small flowered diploid.

As you might imagine, Bob really likes Double Blazing Busby.

I didn't think I would like a greenish flower, but I really like Green Arrow.

Lincoln Andres is not the toothiest one around, but it's an excellent grower with a nice color.

Madeline Nettles Eyes is one of the tiniest tets that I know of.

Papa Goose is a nice big flower. I thought about crossing it with Absolute Ripper, but then remembered the ploidy difference.

Wispy Rays has been here for many years and is finally looking good.

Tramps Like Us took a long time getting established, but is doing fine now. I prefer my toothies with a stronger color.

Here is Primal Scream with Bill Norris in the back.

Let's Dance X Sihir is a big flower.

This seedling has been around for a while and we need to make a decision of whether it goes or stays. It is Interview with a Vampire X Crimson Stories. It's shorter than we like and doesn't have a great bud count, but it is in the worst soil in the garden. We need to move it and see how it performs.

I know I posted these before but I just can't resist. It is Princess of Alexandria X Extreme Tangerine.

I think I like this one. It is Rosie Cotton's Ribbons X Red Eyed Queen. It is much taller than Rosie.

I like the color on Velvet Eyes X Santa's Little Helper.

There were several siblings out of this group open today. The cross is Wolverine X (Sea of Cinders X Happy Holidays to You).

The clump with Bil;l Norris and Primal Scream is really pretty, Nancy. Wispy Rays was the same here....it took several years, but makes nice clumps now. V is quite green and I like it too. Princess of Alexandria X Extreme Tangerine is really pretty. and I like Wolverine X (Sea of Cinders X Happy Holidays to You and Velvet Eyes X Santa's Little Helper.

Thank you Debra.I love this Torenia plantI use to have one years ago,and forgot to bring it in the first winter I had it and thought it had died, but, in the spring I found a bunch of little plants coming up and gowing, but,I finally had lost all of it,so I was very happy when I found a plant at our local nursery that only opens up a few months each spring.its a member of the African violet group, but,it tolerates a little sun very good.Thanks for your comments on the daylilies. MANTIS: yes the TORENIA plant tolerates heat very well, just not a lot of hot sun, but it does like a little sunshine.Have to be careful with the watering and not over water it.Thats how I have killed several of them, over watering.let it dry out before watering again.and yes,it does like a little early morning sunshine or late evening.just not in the hottest part of the day,it needs in the shade, then. This little kitty can be just a barrel of laughs..Every morning when it hears my front door unlock and open, it just comes from out of no where, just jumping up and down like a bucking horse, and it sits there waiting for its food it knows I am bringing. it sits there looking up at me,and moving b ackwards each step I make.It wants to be first to get its head in the bowl to eat, as the mother is always waiting by the step each morning, too.Shes wild and wont let me get too close to her, but, shes very pretty grey tabby. jean

There's not one of those daylilies that I wouldn't welcome into my garden (I bet they'd be shocked at the temperature difference though(107 today). I love the color of Barny, and Ashwood Still Night looks so deep and velvety. But then there is Major General that looks luscious too. No, no. I just can't choose my favorite of these...Maryl

VAL: No shade in my yard at all.everything is out in the hot sun all day.they get no relief untiill sundown. DEBRA: I wish all your blooms would all open good, too on Wonder of it all, so you could injoy its beauty, too.I am outside about a dozen times a day, not long at a time, maybe 15 minutes in this heat, but I go out to look at this beautiful bloom.I cant get enough of this daylily.and I do love china Bride,,too. Debra, Mister Mayor had 4 fans, 4 original scapes and 2 reblooms, one was instant. Final Frontier is my latest bloomer, way later than anything else I have. Scapes started showing up last weekend, so will be a bit before it blooms. It is tall, large flowers, a very brawny plant. Foliage looks almost like yucca. I have thought about getting Last Chance for Romance. If it blooms the same time as Final Frontier, I definitely need it. FF looks so Lonesome in August. Thanks Brad. Soli is a favorite. It has 2 scapes with 18 and 21 buds. It has been blooming over a month. Is this what is meant by extended bloom? When they don't rush to bloom out in 2 or 3 weeks.

I really like velvet Eyes X Santas Little Helper, love that dark eye. Double Blazing Busby is a wonderful double. I slso like that nice clump of Primal Scream.

The group shot with Primal Scream and Bill Norris is my favorite today. I love all those bright colors together! Papa Goose impresses with its size and color. Of the seedlings, I'm partial to the Interview With a Vamp kid. It's so pretty. I really think you should move it to a better spot to see if it improves.

I grew both Santa's Little Helper and Velvet Eyes. I'm not much of a fan of most red daylilies, but the shade of red on SLH was rich and pretty sunfast too as I recall. I only wished it had had larger blooms. Velvet Eyes didn't perform as well in our heat. I like the looks of your seedling cross of both of those. How large are the blooms?...........I'm with Bob on the double orange Double Blazing Busby. Will have to look it up as I hadn't heard of it before............I've got to mention the pretty pink of Papa Goose. Wonderful picture of it..................Maryl
