Design Dilemma living room Home Decorating

help with living room setup

Hello,

I need some advice on how to setup the living room so I can have 3 zones if possible. In the picture its an idea but would love to hear some feedback or other proposals.

The room is 19x17 feet, so around 320 sq. feet and the only thing that has to stay is the L-shaped sofa (because we own it already).

Hello Serban,

Here are some suggestions. Only the furniture placement is being suggested not the colors and styles. We put a round table for six people in the room because it is easier to move around the room with a round table. The TV is a very large flat screen TV for better viewing. There is a tall shelf in the corner of the play area for more toys, books, etc. for the baby and two black baskets near the patio door for more toy storage. Then there is a console for the TV for more storage and dining room cabinet with two table lamps for additional storage (as seen in your layout). Also a water fountain floor lamp over the couch for more lighting. Hope this helps.

How big and what is the placement of the windows on the walls…are they lower or higher on the walls? Photo please

Hi @Susan, thanks for taking a look, i added a photo of the corner windows, the other windows are positioned the same.

Sweetie, It could be a lot of things. You won't know until you open the curtains, let some light in, tidy up to the best of your ability...........and take some decent photos of the entire space. Better yet, would be to draw the space, add dimensions, doors, windows , openings, and dimensions for those as well. Based on what info you gave, it's "mystery meat"

Post a floor plan with measurements. You might be able to have a sofa on the left wall and chairs facing it (floating in the room). The couch and the chairs would have the view. However, without all the dimensions and walkways indicated, this might not be the best plan.

I’ll happily be proven wrong but I don’t think curtains fit the room’s style. I would go with a motorized window blind. Motorized because I think you will raising and lowering daily. I’d say wood shutters but the windows appear to have a decorative design along with trim. I’d show them off! Looks like you have pretty views as well. Moving the sofa closer connects it to the tv area. My living room is set up in a somewhat similar way. Im going to try to post a pic.

Do you need a table that seats six for everyday? If not, then Mae Day's arrangement should work for you. You can always get a table with a leaf so you can expand it when the occasion requires it.

Consider the play area under the large corner windows, dining left of the kitchen door, TV between the two "south" windows with sofa rotated to center with TV. You should be able to use a larger rug with the sofa floating away from walls.

@decoenthusiaste thanks for taking a look. I've thought of that but doesn't the couch kinda block the entrance? also with the table on that side, the room looks full on one side and empty on the other, like in my first draft. the couch is drawn at scale and needs to stay :)

@Mae Day Organizing and Interior Design we really liked your layout, especially the round table. i think that will be a nice focal point for the room. what i'd like to know if its possible to have something similar but where, if you walk in and out the room, you're not getting in the way of the person watching tv

Another question: Are you going to keep the carpeting in the room or will you be replacing it with hardwood flooring? If you are keeping it than you probably will not need an area rug under the couch.

We have come up with another suggestion for your consideration. The couch in this rendition is 9'8" 5/8 and the table (an expandable table) is 3 feet across.

thank you, i really appreciate everyones input. i think we'll go with the first layout from @Mae Day Organizing and Interior Design. it fits best to our needs. in our current home its the same that there is a pathway between the tv and the couch and it has not bothered us once.
