How to remove end panel that was glued on

We are doing an Ikea kitchen with the Semihandmade fronts/trim. We hired a handyman to help with the install, and the wrong cuts were made for this end panel. He then used liquid nails to secure the panel to the end of the run.

The counter company came yesterday to template and they noticed this issue and said that for multiple reasons (the panel isn't level, it's deeper than the rest of the run, etc.), it needs to be removed and trimmed.

So, uh...how?

We thought about using our heat gun but that seems like it might damage the Ikea cabinet. That's about as far as we got late last night. Help!

p.s. Please ignore that I myself incorrectly attached the back of this cabinet so the MDF faces in 😅 Thankfully it was just this one, and it will be painted.

Not coming off without destroying the panel and quite likely the box unfortunately.

Replace that cabinet side entirely is the only way. So, uninstall, then take spart the cabinet, and rebuild with new parts.

The serial number isn't much helpful, it only reveals that the machine apparently was built in Clyde, OH during the 29th week of 2005. The model number should also be on that plate, starting with 110. 110.someothernumbers. With the model number, you can find parts diagrams at www.searspartsdirect.com. However, Type 111 does provide a clue. Does your console look like this picture? If so, the screws are hidden behind the side trim pieces. Carefully snap the trim off both ends. Remove the screws. Raise the console and pry out the spring clips. Don't forget to disconnect the wiring harness, and reconnect it when reassembling. When putting the cabinet back in place, slots in the bottom edges at the rear corners must engage on tabs sticking up on the base. There is another method sometimes used to secure the console to the cabinet, involving spring clips instead of screws, released by slipping a putty knife or other such thin blade at the front corners between the console and top and pressing back while pulling upward on the console. That's why the model number is needed, to determine your machine's exact construction. If your pump is the source of the leak, it's easy to replace. Two hoses come off, two clips hold the pump to the motor.

Homebound -- yes, I had a good stare at it yesterday and I can tell that it is covering a wedge-shaped gap (the corner behind it is not exactly square). So I didn't start pulling it off, since it's a good idea to have a plan for repair before taking things apart... and I don't have a better idea for covering the gap than using that side piece. I think my real problem with it is that it's a cheap top that would look about right in a basic apartment. haha. (In other words, perfectly appropriate for a basement bathroom that gets very little use.) So I probably will end up filling the gap and leaving the side piece alone, and then I can use drywall_diy_guy's advice when I get to the kitchen.

Enormous mirror glued to drywall 67' wide x 81' tall- remove?

It took me a month but I did call a glass company and the mirror is now gone! It was funny, I called around and got quotes for $200, $150, and $75. I asked the guy who would do it for $75 to come and do the job. I explained that it was 81 inches by 67 inches but I think his English was limited. He showed up today all alone! So he said, "That's too heavy for one person." and I thought he went to his truck to call in backup. He came back with his ladder and a suction cup and started to yank this huge 1/4 inch thick mirror off the wall. It popped right off with about 6 repositions of the suction cup. He asked if I wanted it in my garage. I said, "No, you're going to haul this away for me." He said, "No, I will cut it up and put it in the garbage." I was skeptical but I went with it. Then it was loose and he kept saying, "This is too heavy for one person. It weighs 300 pounds." So I watched as he cut the mirror into two pieces and lowered them to the floor. He cut those into long strips. Then he carried the strips outside where he found three trash cans on the cul-de-sac to spread the weight (it was trash day, yay!) and cut the strips into small pieces. The trash truck rolled by within the hour so my neighbors will never know that we borrowed their cans. There are some circles of mastic remaining on the wall, no big deal. The mirror was glued to the builder's original beige primer, so we know it was original to the house (1985). I have a painter coming in an hour to give me an estimate, I'm so glad it is not a huge mess for him. Thank you to everyone who weighed in on this project! I wanted to pick a paint color before I removed the mirror and that took me a month! We chose Benjamin Moore Concord Ivory- I can't wait until it's done!

This site is for woodworking, but glue is glue, right? It suggests heat and/or steam, so my suggestion is to try using your iron on the felt, using the hottest steam setting. Good luck! Here is a link that might be useful: Removing old glue

Sounds like your handyman wasn't as handy as he claimed, or this was his first IKEA kitchen rodeo (or maybe his first kitchen install period?)

I would start hunting down a new cabinet (note: you can get any width you want, since you really only need the one side) and order a replacement panel ASAP - you'll likely need both. That Liquid Nails isn't going to give without damaging something. Sorry, not the news you want to hear :(

I wish a new cabinet was an option but Ikea is out of stock with no re-stock date in sight. I ordered ours back in December for a May install. We started demolition over a month ago and the counters are to be installed next week. So we're in a real pickle.

And yes, very irritated about the poor job. He has done a decent number of kitchens but not Ikea. He kept saying how much he disliked Ikea but I kept saying "It wouldn't be so hard if you followed the directions..." only to have him continue to ignore them. Live and learn.

I don't think you have a choice. The whole side is going to come off before that adhesive gives way, and then it's going to be uneven when you try to attach a new panel. It's going to look not so great. Forever. And it'll bug you that you didn't do it right. Forever. For. Ever.

They do get random cabinets in. I have ordered two for a project and gotten them in the past few weeks. I checked randomly throughout the day and voila there they were. Where are you located?

You can check the As Is section too for returns, as well as craigslist and Ebay (people list parts and full cabinets often).

ETA: Just checked and there are at least two widths of 24" base cabinets that are in stock for delivery in my area.

Happy to report we solved it! we ended up uninstalling the cabinet and cutting the panel while it was still attached. took some skill and a makeshift jig but we got it! I’m thrilled :)
