removing shower door

I want to replace the ugly shower door attached to the tub in the apartment I'm buying and install a curved shower curtain rod. I also have other items on my bathroom to-do list such as replacing the vanity and replacing the faucets in the shower and the sink. I realize the removal of the shower door is a delicate operation. What kind of specialist do I hire for the shower door removal? Can I hire one type for all the jobs or do I need a plumber for the fittings and someone else for the shower door removal? Thanks!

I'd hire a contractor or very talented handyman (do your research into qualifications and satisfied customers) to do the shower door and replace the vanity. I don't think you need a plumber for the other things, but if you get a good handyman or contractor, they can tell you if a plumber is needed.
If you're removing the door, you're likely to have holes in the tub that will need to be filled. Not sure how successful that can be. If you get a double curved rod, you can hang a liner inside the tub and a decorative curtain outside the tub and it will hide the patches/repairs if they show.

I have removed shower doors from bath tubs twice by myself, when younger, in my 30s or 40s. There are tracks that are generally caulked in place in top of the tub.. The sides usually have two holes - one top, one bottom. I unscrewed the tracks from the side walls and filled the holes with caulk. I carefully scraped the caulk off the top of the tub side with razor blades. Put up a curtain rod, and you are done.

If water got into the curb, it'll do it again once the curb is replaced, and it'll most likely be even worse, if you don't take out the pan, and about 18-24" all the way around the walls, and completely redo the pan. The only way to know for sure is to take it apart and see if there's water getting at the framing. You MIGHT be able to see it if you take the tile (or whatever) off the OUTSIDE face and strip that down to the studs, but that's not a guarantee.

Old thread but no one mentioned that the refinishing process involves roughing up the surface so the white paint adheres - so even if paint was taken off entirely would still be in rough shape. Its really sad, esp since some low-information realtor probably advised the seller to do it under the mistaken idea that no one would like a pink tub. Au contraire.

Sorry, yes it will keep coming back as new soap and skin cells are deposited there and it gets wet. If it grows back in one day you didn't get rid of it the first time and your bathroom is staying damp for a long time. If it is several days or a week it means you need to clean more often. Unfortunately you can't get under the track so all sorts of stuff is probably stuck under there. Just keep cleaning it regularly and try going to the hardware store and getting a mold killing cleaner with concrobium instead of bleach. Bleach is hydroscopic and feeds mold where as concrobium is not and just kills it outright.

Call a glass company. They install shower doors and can safely remove them, disposing of those large pieces of tempered glass.glass
