How dark is too dark? Powder
Comments (26)Annie, love your powder room! Great color, my master bedroom is painted coral and I love it. I adore your over the top elements, work perfectly in your room! Linelle, that's funny that you should say that about the green. We have 3 bathrooms in our home, the other two are painted Tiffany blue and cocoa. I will bypass both of those bathrooms and head to the powder room if I am feeling queasy. I find the green much more calming then either of the other bathrooms. My daughter on the other hand, much prefers the blue bathroom....See MoreTiny powder bath -- is this too much?
Comments (25)I think all three of those paintings in a small powder room will overwhelm.i would pick one, and put it on the wall directly opposite from the door. I will say you are lucky to have such a great amount of artwork that you love! Also, I would caution you against trying to place art before you have moved in with all your furniture. When we moved to our current house, our interior designer did a floor plan for our existing furniture and a lot of it ended up in different types of rooms. A regency bookcase formerly in my bedroom ended up in the living room, a pine secretary in the family room went into a bedroom, etc. I was surprised, but LOVED the new placement of my furniture. ID told us to put every bit of artwork and accessories (even decorative needlepoint pillows) all together in one room. We covered the dining table with a blanket for objets d'art and stacked paintings and prints along the walls. He and his assistant came after we were moved in and hung and accessorized everything at once----again, not just putting things back in their former places, but with a fresh eye at the new digs. Our house had been repainted so room colors were different, just as your new house is now in colors that probably weren't in your old house. The light, the room proportions----all that makes art stand out differently. So I am just making a case for you to wait until all the furniture is in place and then go "shopping" amongst your own goods to refresh the look and feel of your cherished possessions. You're getting some new furniture as well and that will help see your art with a fresh eye. I was amazed at how different---and WONDERFUL--- our stuff looked in different rooms! Left up to me I would have put everything back in the same place in the new house, and I am so, so glad we didn't! Anyway, not that you asked for my "moving wisdom," if that is what it is, lol, but I did want to share that process as it was very successful for us. Agree that the tp holder is rather too far from where it would be wanted, but a move of doc to eight inches to the left (in the photo) should make it accessible. Your room is too small for a standing tp holder, which take up a surprising amount of room and would probably be knocked down with regularity in one of those proportions. As to the towels....you have answered your own doubts: "but I still don't want to spill over into the realm of cutesy or kitsch." Yes they are cute, but resist!...See MorePowder room and laundry room layout help
Comments (40)I'd still be concerned about your mother and a walker in the bathroom. How much room is there between the shower and the toilet? Plus where will grab bars go? There's so much extra room around the space that you'll need to put in floor grab bars which are a heck of a lot uglier than coming in and seeing a toilet. I do agree about the doorway into the guest room. However I don't like where she placed it because now you are limited where you can put the bed and I think the solution is worse. The width of the bedroom is 10'8" or 128" wide. Putting the bed between the wall and the closet on the window side (so the foot of the bed faces the entry door), means you now only have 68" of space if you use a queen sized bed. (A queen mattress is 60" wide) So that means now your mother only has 34" of walking space. Not even a full 3" on either side of the bed. If there's a bed frame, then it's even less. If you place the bed on the left wall you only have 126" and you need 3' for the door swing. So now whoever is on the window side of the room has even less space to move around. So while it solves the problem of the two doors, it really creates another problem because of the bed. By keeping all doors on one side, and keeping the original size of the bedroom, the bed can be placed between the windows because the original room width was 11' or 132". That gives a full 3' on each side of the bed. Also note that clothes don't turn corners in closets. That's the reason I left that area blank. It can be hanging for things like ties or belts, etc....See MoreIs this vanity too big for my powder room?
Comments (10)May I ask you all another question? I bought an oval 17" by 14" sink for this vanity (https://www.us.kohler.com/us/caxton-oval-17-x-14-undermount-bathroom-sink-with-overflow-and-clamp-assembly/productDetail/bathroom-sinks/417480.htm?skuId=357506&brandId=429745). The depth of the cabinet is 19-1/2", 21" with counter. Should I use something with a shorter width instead, like this (https://www.build.com/kingston-brass-lb18127/s584098?uid=1510276)? I also bought a widespread faucet (not wall mounted), I'm wondering if that would make things too tight as well. Thank you....See MoreC Priday
