Comments (42)Paul! You always sound sad when I come across your thoughts (the end of your blog, some of your thoughts here). You have given wonderful gifts to humanity that will extend well beyond your lifetime. Vocation and career/financial compensation do not always coincide (nor are they meant to), and vocations also have seasons; it's okay to rest. I am a 35-year-old who has recently become possessed by growing roses, specifically the old fragrant ones, especially cream colors. I will help carry the torch until the flames of popularity are fanned again. I have an inkling the young ones ("crystal children") just coming of age who love the old clothes and hairstyles will bring about a rose renaissance in their 40s, but that's just my guess. (I had NO IDEA the English and old garden roses I was in love with all over Pinterest for my wedding could actually be grown in my garden, for instance.) Take heart! All is not lost....See MoreThank you: Paul Barden's Rose Site

Comments (42)I should show photos that depict its lack of vigor too. Great for dry heat, no crisping... but maybe not good for other areas. No new little canes yet. I really should be pinching off buds as instructed, I just got too busy. One got some black spot and defoliated, which isn't a problem ever here so if you're in a black spot area it's probably not so good. The others all have a little black spot too. This one gets the most sun and heat... it's the happiest. All my broccoli and celery, lettuce and radishes bolted in that bed too. It's hot....See MorePaul Barden, would you please look at these?
Comments (38)I have had quite a few correctly named roses from RVRs too, Frances. I'm hoping your Etienne is correct. Umbra does appear to be sold out and the rose they sent us was located right before the rose we wanted. My rose had an Umbra label with an OK written in magic marker on it. I never had seen that before. When I first moved here, I went over there to pick up a Marianne and bought another 25 or so roses I wanted by wandering through the bands sorted alphabetically on platforms/tables. I really think the lovely owner's age is a factor here. She has Scott now trying to get things organized. They really don't allow wandering through like I did that first time. An employee is sent back to find the rose for us and possibly they are not all fanatics like we are. I seem to have gotten great mislabels for the most part. They also get shipments in from a grower or growers I've seen on the grounds too, that have nametags in the little pots. They were offloaded close to the entry. I guess it has been too much to handle at times....See Morefig_insanity Z7b E TN
