Exterior Light Fixture

I recently purchased an exterior light fixture for the front of our house and I’m looking for the best way to properly secure it to the stone, so that the fixture hangs properly and so the backplate is flush. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I think you're going to need a mason. I hope there is a fist sized hunk of clear silicon caulk behind that unit that is not visible in the photo.

So, you're requirements are that the fixture be mounted plumb and flush to an out-of-flat and non-plumb stonework surface. Two choices: you either remove stone with a hammer and chisel until the mounting surface is flat and plumb, or you add something artificial to the stone surface to make a flat and plumb surface. I would do the latter and use something like Azek PVC trim boards to construct a flat-surfaced spacer between the stone and light fixture. Trim the back side of the spacer to fit to the uneven stone and caulk to prevent water intrusion. Paint the Azek to match as necessary.

Given the setting and style, I'd do a pair of industrial metal sconces that add sparkle and character, but I'd also absolutely consider 4 or more 5 inch downlights to put light down on the porch either by themselves or with sconces. But switch them separately and use dimmers!
