is there a " best" veronica austriaca?
Comments (3)F.W.I.W. I see that under British conditions anyway 'Crater Lake Blue' and 'Royal Blue' were apparently determined to be top performers in 1993 (A.G.M. = Award of Garden Merit): http://apps.rhs.org.uk/agm/Award2.asp?User2=Hrb&crit=veronica%20and%20austriaca Closer to home Chicago Botanic Garden also has an ongoing garden plant evaluation program of some scope. I found this on their web site (unfortunately it appears the only forms of this species they looked at were 'Crater Lake Blue' and a pale one): https://www.chicagobotanic.org/downloads/planteval_notes/no33_veronica.pdf...See MoreVeronica spicata, artist series?
Comments (6)You may like Veronica ‘White wands’....it is one of my favorite perennials. Pictured here at different angles in different beds... The deep purple (kind of hard to see) to the bottom right of the white wands, is my darkest and most compact Veronica ‘Vernique dark blue’. Not sure of the height, I just know it’s a shorty :) I love how deep and rich the color is. Here’s another shot in case your interested in a compact purple.......See MoreVeronica Never Bloomed
Comments (6)by babes ... i was trying to figure out how big the plant was ... that you planted ... like a 3 month old seedling.. versus a year old one gal pot .... with perennials ... obviously... one plant in the example is a year older than the other ... you also said.. your soil was heavily amended ... and i was wondering if you had done that just before planting.. and if you used manure ... which would be heavy in urea.. fert .. so even though you didnt double up with more fert... perhaps you over nitro'd them ... too much nitro .. just like on the lawn.. favors a lot of green vegetative growth.. and sometimes.. to the detriment of flowering .. if over done ... if you just meant organics .. then that is probably not an issue ... with any perennial ... i would give them at least 2 seasons ... before i would start thinking about banishment ... ken...See MoreWhich Speedwell (Veronica)
Comments (3)Thanks gg Rechecked all my books (UK flora) - nada! Checked online and discovered a plant that would do very nicely on the top of my hedge. Thank you, very much! Checked all the plants I bought last year, only to discover I bought one, amongst a bunch I got to go into some planters. I presumed it, like a couple of others in the planters, were just swamped out of existance. They were VERY over planted. I must have put it on the hedge and totally forgotten about it. There are also a couple of others that were obviously planted, but what are they? Only time will give me flowers and then the fun can begin....See Morelovemycorgi z5b SE michigan
