Why does it look like this sugar maple is dying?
Comments (77)Just for the sake of chronicling this experience, I ended up spraying right after my last reply. It took about 3 mins and exactly 1 gallon to do all the trees and some shrubs. The wind was so calm and I knew it was my only chance. It rains here about once or twice a month yet it will happen when i need it to stay dry. It looks like some light sprinkles now....See MoreNeed Sugar Maple ID Help

Comments (16)I love your sweep of lawn bordered by the perennial bed and the pin oak is just beautiful! As others pointed out, it won't remain in scale with your home and yard ultimately, though- it seems like every tree grows to about twice its normal size here. And another large tree or two will have your home buried in gloom in time. I am no expert so others may nix this idea, but why not plant a nice dark green hedge along the boundary, arborvitaes maybe? And then in front of that, one or two japanese maples with good color that will show up against the green hedge? Many of them get beautiful fall color (I was originally from new England, myself, and I miss the beautiful autumn, too!) and then the bare branch pattern would be pretty in front of a hedge in winter as well. That would give you privacy and still let some sun shine in (when it is out, lol). You could fill out beneath them with shrubs and perennials....See MoreNeed help choosing a Sugar Maple cultivar please!
Comments (40)Manor View Farm in Balto Co, has sugar maple in their inventory. You will have to have your contractor place the order and pick them up. Someone like Stadler Nursery should have them (many locations) Waverly Farm nr Frederick -wholesale- We live in Northern Maryland, right on the PA line...... well that narrows it down to about 240 miles, so I will assume you are in the eastern part where I am. If you want to try the retail route consider: Valley View Farm, Sun Nursery, Homestead Gardens, in MD Merrifield's or Betty's Azalea Ranch in Fairfax Co, its a matter of calling around and shopping around, ask when they get their fall shipments in. Below is an interesting cover from our state's promotional literature. The sugar maples are a cultivar because they are all so uniform. I can't say which one, maybe 'Green Mountain' Location is Buckeystown Pike south of Frederick....See MoreHeruga (7a Northern NJ)
