Gorgeous Handcrafted Lamp Shade

DD just bought her first house and we are busy painting, patching, etc. Yesterday she showed me this gorgeous leaded stained glass shade which she will hang over her table. She is a project manager for a renovation company and can sometimes yank something out of the trash pile that she just can't bear to see tossed away. This was one of those items. It was filthy and corroded and she spent hours cleaning it up, inside and out. But isn't it a beauty? I could barely lift it -I'm guessing it weighs at least fifty pounds and hangs from matching chains that attach to the hooks visible in the photo. The rod attachment that fits inside holds three light bulbs.

Great feedback - thanks! ThreeD - You got me laughing out loud with that 'leg lamp' comment! That movie is a family favorite of ours, and I love that awful lamp. Oceanna - Those fringed shades seem to work on the single candlestick lamps you show, but I'm not so sure about this one. I think the fringe detracts from the classic shapes somehow... FWIW, according to the seller, the fringed shade is not original, and the lamp itself dates (she thought) from the 1940's -- Which would make sense because apparently somewhere (I haven't seen it) it says 'West Germany' -- which would date it 1940's to early 1990's. After doing some more research, I think what I have is a variant of a 'Bouilotte Lamp' -- a multiple-candlestick shape that traditionally has a dark metal (generally tole) shade. (Though I haven't seen them with crystal columns.) And after searching for Bouilotte lamps, I'm feeling much better about the price I paid for this one! Hi! I just wanted yall to know I wasn't fishing for compliments or anything.....the more I look at professional interiors the more insecure I feel about my abilities to create a beautiful & comfy space. This room has ended up being "left overs" from a bigger house & I am really having a hard time pulling it together. I don't know if I am going for soft, neutral & serene or more dressy classic & a little bold????? So, it seems it is mixed about light/dark on the lamps?? Chandelier is too small but I am willing to live with it. I have never had crystals hanging & I love the way they look lit up. Change the shades???? Red, I will take a pic of 2 skinny buffet lamps I have in my DR tomorrow & see what yall think. Musical lamps at my house right now!! Yes, PB is very simliar to WT - I used PB on all my trim in my previous house & foyer & hall. Lovely color and your den looks gorgeous. You have so many beautiful pieces of furniture. Oh, and I saw your post about which picture & agree about the darling portrait of your daughter - esp. since your mother did it. It does not get any more special than that:) Shee, the 2 bird plaques I got at an antique shop. Your entry is really pulling together. I like very much your new lamps & bunny planter. Good job, girl:) Valzone, I would love to see your lamp. I really should have taken a pic of the shade they had on this one - it was HUMONGOUS(spel??)) I think I am going to look at Aidan Gray lamps to get some ideas, too. I have moved so much stuff around in here - you should see all the holes in the walls!! That is a beautiful fixture. Is the metal copper? Your daughter not only has a good eye, but she is also saving a handmade art piece. As a stained glass hobbyist, I know how much skill and thought went into that fixture. I would love to find something half as nice.

Thanks all -I'm glad so many found it as beautiful as I did. I wish we knew more about it. It came out of a very old house in Austin, along with an 8-foot tall stained glass window which she also saved from the trash heap, and has stored until she has a place for it.

And yes, it is a fun job and she is very well suited for it. But the stress can be pretty overwhelming at times. She is typically managing 6-7 renovation projects at any given time, with budgets of $100K to $1M, and timelines from a few months to more than a year. She has grown so much in the four years she's been doing this, and now skillfully handles the inevitable disasters (like a flooded uptown condo mid-renovation!), mismeasurements (like the nine custom doors that showed up, all of which had been mismeasured!), material delays, labor issues, Covid delays, etc. As with so many jobs, managing client expectations throughout can take a toll.

Maybe she or someone else could start a business to salvage beforer renovations. I always hate seeing things that can be reused and loved sent to the dump.
