Our "John Cabot" climber
Comments (13)You guys are too kind. Thank you. We are very proud of this plant. There are a few wood trellises but they don't do much with respect to support any more. In fact a few years ago, while it was in full bloom we experienced a heavy rainstorm and under all that weight of flower and water this climber fell off the wall! I was mortified. So that fall I secured to the brick a few lengths of wire running horizontally. If I didn't trim the top a few times during the growing season it would reach the roof! ....See MoreJohn Cabot rose 'The One Cane Wonder?'
Comments (6)Wow! That's gorgeous! I hope mine will get that large! I am training him on a trellis. The trellis is 6 ft and 20 ft long with only one other rose on the opposite end. I hope they get so long that they meet in the middle! lol. The other one is my Ramblin' Red, although I have yet to see much of him....See MoreOH-OH John Cabot lost to RRD
Comments (18)When I saw the affected growth on one cane, I quickly noticed it on many other canes. All affected canes were similar in appearance to that pictured in the photo on the "Bizarre rose growth" post. It was only on old growth or on new growth coming from old growth canes. No new growth coming directly from the ground was affected. In case you haven't tracked this outbreak, I'm in Jasper County, Indiana. That's located in the NW corner right under Lake and Porter counties. I'm 12 miles east of I-65 or 19 miles due south of Valparaiso, off Indiana route 49. Picture is of the bush during the spring flush. The flag pole is 30 feet tall and the bush went about one third up the pole. John Cabot is no more....See MoreJohn Cabot vs William Buffin
Comments (7)They're HUGE! Monsters! I didn't know about their size when I planted them. Just cut back one, it took me hours. I love their thousands of blooms in the spring, my old backyard neighbors used to take family photos in front of 2 WB every year. This year I am getting more repeats. the first 3 photos I just took 5 mins ago....See Morerouge21_gw (CDN Z5b/6a)
