Double play, Candy corn spirea leaf scorch

Joe Williams
last year

I’ve had 3 spirea japonica, Double Play Candy Corn shrubs growing for 3 years now…and every summer when the summer heat starts they start getting scorched. I’m in zone 6, central Indiana. They are on the north side if my house, in a large mulched bed. They get full sun in June and July at the height of summer. Before and after that they get sun until about 2 in the afternoon.

Moisture is not definitely not an issue. There is never any drooping or limp stems. They grow vigorously and have stout stems. The foliage simply seems too tender for full sun. Anyone ever experienced this with this cultivar? I’ve grown every other kind of spirea and they seem bulletproof.
