Clear glass pendants over island- too bright?
Comments (8)We have two 100 watt pendants over 41-inch peninsula. I usually crank them down about 1/5. Otherwise, I feel I need eyeshades (at 63, I am sensitive to glare more than DH is). There is lots more light in the room so this is fine. I'm glad I don't have any kitchen lighting that requires fussing with constant dusting. These fixtures are great: mottled matte white downfacing glass shades, which I very much like. The rougher surface doesn't show dust the way my old shiny white globes used to do. I have to use fingers or a cloth to decide whether they're dusty. Bulb underneath is globe in soft white style. No diffuser for camouflage so you look at the bulb if your head is at a certain angle. Might bother a child?...See Morelast (?) kitchen decision - clear, seeded, water glass or ???
Comments (17)i'm back! :) been playing with some photos, but seeded glass is so delicate a pattern, it really doesn't show much at a distance. plus it has to have "your stuff" behind it to make an accurate representation. if you aren't going to put lights in your cabinets, probably seeded would look nice and not compete with your pendants. but the people who like the clear have a really good point about your kitchen/house not needing any extraneous "frou frou". at least that's what i think they meant!...See MoreSeeds sprouting already - natural sun vs artificial light?
Comments (7)"the evaporation is so quick due to high temps that I am not able to maintain constant humidity levels - the soil is either drowning or dry" There are many workarounds for that. One of the easiest is a water bath below your growing medium. I do that in the colder season by floating (watertight) seed trays on water in a fish tank. Invert a few glass tumblers as seed tray supports if floating doesn't float yer boat. If the sun's too strong, there's always a towel or pillow case to drape across the front of the glass. I do that in our winter when we can have a 40F/22C temperature swing and the air is bone dry. You can get fogging on the inside of the glass with the top wide open....See MoreSeeded glass vs. clear glass for kitchen pendants
Comments (3)Beth H., those are beautiful! Thank you for the referral to Rejuvenation. I just heard about them for the first time earlier today. I wasn't sure that seeded glass would work with our contemporary design so that's good to know it could work either way....See MoreM Riz
