Healthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 6/19
Comments (35)PricklyPC, I am having an issue that I now have to wear belts dramatically cinched on my "fat pants" but also regaining the ability to wear some of my other pants. I'm really having trouble because I need a few new clothes but can't decide whether to buy my thin size or fat size. I have always been on the border between two sizes . . . so it depends on the cut. But before my weight loss, I was finding myself firmly in the higher size. I don't know which way I am going to swing over the long run . . . I know for sure that I have to keep my weight down for health reasons, so hopefully that will motivate me to keep saying "no" to so much food . . . it's no fun, but then neither is being sick all the time and being in the hospital for all these invasive procedures....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 6/26
Comments (51)Late to the party. My weight has been in flux this week. Started the week out 1lb up but now that it's Friday I'm 1lb down, so hopefully I'm either unchanged or 1lb down overall. Trying to stay strong during the weekdays, having healthy meals and avoiding any alcohol. Though to be honest, this has been the kind of week that makes me want to have a cocktail pretty badly. I have been great with cardio this week. Swimming or running every single morning and trying to push myself during the workouts. I am really struggling to find the time to prioritize lifting weights. I've only gotten 2 lifts in this week and I should be at 4. I've been really sore from swimming and running and that's probably impacting my motivation to do it. Had some really exciting non-scale victories this week. My favorite smallest size jeans from 8 years ago fit again! I was not sure I would ever fit into them again but they fit. And every single pair of older shorts fits again too! It feels great to be able to grab some old favorites out of the closet and wear them. Then I had two separate people tell me that I looked great. I know I shouldn't be worried about what others think, but it was nice to feel like finally someone other than myself could see the progress. Thank you for the accountability and support that these posts bring. I love hearing all the successes and what you use to motivate yourselves and stay on track. It really really helps....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 11/6
Comments (28)@pricklypearcactus I really do understand what you are dealing with-- and while it could be way worse as can be seen daily in the news, that doesn't change how it impacts your day to day. I went through a number of major work stressors in the period of time I allowed my weight to get out of hand -- a merger followed by a buyout then a move to another company with GREAT opportunities for me but very very long hours and periods of intense challenges. It wasn't until I started viewing my own health as every bit as important as my career, my team and the deadlines that I started to lose weight and return to a healthier life. The good thing for you is that you are aware and alert to the potential impact of your workload and stress-- I think that puts you steps ahead! Again, be good to yourself! Oh my @legomom23! We are all sisters in our food challenges-- I too find my balance leans way too heavily on fats and not enough on protein. I think I am pretty good on fiber but protein is definitely the struggle. I have only just been able to eat nuts again and I have definitely brought them back with glee -- I do like to include them in my diet because they bring in some minerals that are hard to get otherwise-- but really, I need to pull back on the quantity. I don't really think my fats are so out of control they are just way out of balance with my protein which is too low. I still struggle a bit with chewing meat and I was never a big meat eater. I do eat eggs and beans (not together!) a few times a week but I'm not much of a fan of tofu, tempeh etc. I'll need to add in some other sources of protein like quinoa and the higher protein vegetables and legumes. I was surprised to see how much protein is in wild rice-- something I love-- so I think I need to reeducate myself on good plant-based protein sources. My weight remains the same -- actually 1.2lb up from my lowest weight-- but I have maintained it. I have definitely lowered my calories and am very much back to my routine the last 2 weeks... and I have been more active. I can't explain the plateau. I started wondering if I needed to ADD calories but I don't think that's the issue. The only other thing I can point to is the diet pepsi. I am just about out of it-- and removed it from this week's shopping list so I guess I will see if removing it makes a difference. @gsciencechick I am so glad that you finally were able to go to the clinic! I appreciate the information you and @legomom23 have shared! We are all at different places in our journeys but still we all seem to struggle with some of the same challenges -- the information, experiences and support from everyone has been so helpful and I am inspired daily by all you share new recipes, new activities and your successes. ❤️🥗🥦...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 12/11
Comments (13)Hello everyone! @Funkyart I hope you continue to feel better. It is a hard time of the year to not feel your best. There can be so much to do. ' @gsciencechick - that's a lot of fiber! I guess as a vegan it might add up faster. If I'm really trying I can get to 35-40 but that's chia, flax, or basil seeds and berries in my smoothie, a bean and veggie soup, and lots of veggies in a big salad. I have a bar I eat called Papa Steve's no junk bar that has a lot of fiber, I think 16 grams. If I do all of that in one day, maybe I could get that high. My issue is a lot of fiber comes with carbs, and I can only do so much at one time without a spike. But, no one seems to disagree that fiber is great for you, so it's a great focus. I had my health coach meeting this week, which ended up being a lot like a therapy session. I'm really getting in my head about all this contradictory nutrition and weight loss advice. So, we are going back to the basics. Walk 10,000 steps a day, resistance training 3-4 times a week and do my best to control glucose spikes with the healthiest food choice available to me at that time. I started rationalizing food as their macros, instead of the overall health benefit (in my mind) No one can seem to agree on a lot of things, but for me, if I believe I'm doing the right thing, then it's a lot easier to do. But once you go down the rabbit hole, there are a lot of opinions on what is healthy. And it can make a girl crazy! @Zalco/bring back Sophie! - those are parts I am trying to strengthen. I can see some improvememts already, and that is making it a lot easier to stick with it. I have found some exercises I enjoy doing, put my dumbells in front of the TV, and just go. I'm very happy to have become mostly consistent with that. Hope everyone has a great week ahead!...See Moreeld6161
