Remodeling leads to organization?
Comments (2)When I was younger, I moved frequently. Every move was an "opportunity" to go thru all my belongings and discard things I no longer used. I can't tell you how many food containers and butter tubs I chucked! A renovation is like a move. You do have to handle everything you own, even if it's just "the upstairs". It gives you a chance to see everything, decide if you love it/use it and to find a permanent place for it. Have fun!...See Morekitchen re-organization
Comments (5)Well, I had to redo my husband's bachelor bad when we married (since we still live in that house), and though I don't have "before" pictures, trust me... it's a much brighter and more cheerful difference (as I'm sure you can see by my brighter yellowy walls!) As you can see, it's very eclectic, but I still love the finished result. I just love my little, humble kitchen. Every time I go in there, the bright colors and white cabinets...and black accents make feel so happy! Just wish I could keep it clean-- but with two little ones, that's a constant challenge! Whew! Our antique black kitchent table My "chef" stuff... My coffee stuff...and I don't even drink coffee! *But love the decor* Our new remote control, "retro" ceiling fan-- love it! Yes, we have our W&D in our kitchen, but that's the only place they can fit--we're moving soon and I GET A LAUNDRY ROOM!!!!! Yipppppppppeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! My colorful fiestaware in our 1950s built-in "china cabinet" My kitchen "art" taken from a yearly wall calendar. I loved the monthly pics, so I saved 'em and framed 'em! One last look at our little kitchen table...See MoreWhole-house remodel - Organization help!
Comments (5)Divide it by subs...electrical, roofing, windows, flooring, tile, plumbing, etc. It's easier to find things that way. Your subs will have a lot of questions, so keep the binder handy where they can consult it if they need to. As for your financial record...Excel is great, and Quicken is easier to use. With Quicken, I could see where the money was going, and which account (equity line, checking account, credit card) it was coming from. Create a category called Home Renovation. Then create sub categories for each of the various aspects of the job...they will usually correspond with the folders in your binder. And by keeping your financial records separate from the binder, you can keep the binder out for everyone to look at. Keep your permits and copies of applications for permits in the folder on the inside of the front cover of the binder. And don't forget to keep records of how much state income tax you paid on everything if your state allows a federal tax deduction (as WA State does) on your federal taxes. You might want to set up a small work table in a common area with the binder and a copy of the architectural plans....See MoreKitchen corner sink cabinet organization
Comments (8)You know that YouTube is our best friend -- here's a great link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJShOM0Pxws . Specific thoughts: - Not gonna lie -- it's 11 minutes of your life that you'll never get back, and it could've been 5 minutes. We didn't need to see her assemble the sliding shelves. Her finished product, though, is great! - In her case, her big problem was that the garbage disposal was "front and center" hogging all the space. I can only assume this is true for all corner sinks? She worked around it well, but it seems to me that she could've added a storage bucket BEHIND the garbage disposal; this could've been for unopened cleaners (I can't be the only person who falls for the B3GOFs). - Key to her project are two sets of sliding shelves -- they seem to be a great fit for her project. If I were her, I would've used one of the sliding shelves for the trash bags, which -- as she says -- are a constant-use item. - She keeps all kind of cleaners under her sink. Personally, I would've kept wood cleaner, etc. elsewhere. - I like the grocery-bag container and how she attached it on an edge. - If I were her, I would've put some hooks on the back of the doors for the rubber gloves and scrubber....See MoreVerbo
