My parents house is like that, but there’s a wall with a wide doorway into the area with the vanity, so it’s open but also easy to close off by just putting a curtain rail up. It’s also oriented to the room such that if you only use enough light at the vanity to wash your hands for a midnight potty run, it really isn’t enough to bother someone in the bed if you place the bed sensibly. Getting ready in the morning would be trickier if you needed to do makeup and so on so needed proper lighting, so that’s where a screen or a curtain would come in.

ThatÂs what I was afraid of. I didnÂt want to put ideas in peopleÂs headsÂbut that is the reservation I have. I think having to use it on one side of the wall, asymmetrically, doesnÂt work. I was SO sure it would look great, and be really like the finishing touch in this room. Darn! The thickness, bulkiness, of it bothers me too, in that place. Too much mass. I thought, before I tried it, that it would balance the weight of the solid looking vanity. Instead it just makes it look like too much weight on the left side of the room and nothing on the right. Having to one side bothers me with the light fixture too, and I love that light. It doesnÂt show well in the photos, but is a stained glass repro I ordered from a craftsman lighting company, in a custom size. The mirror is discontinued, so I canÂt get another to balance it better. It doesnÂt look right centered on the big mirror either. Too odd when you are standing in front of the vanity. Sigh. I love this mirror. Buying this one when it went on clearance was what made me decide to have a craftsman bathroom in the first place! (Well, that and it opens off a craftsman family room.) I have one open wall on that room, where I used to have a framed picture. IÂll try propping it up there. The craftsman family room already has a mirror.

It doesn't sound like she's very creative at ALL! Geeze, louis. Ok...so hmmm...First, mixing gloss with matte. I think it's like mixing finishes, some like it, some don't. To me, it sounds like youre not thrilled with the idea. If that's the case, follow your intuition and don't compromise. Just because your field tile is one brand doesn't mean your trim has to be the same brand too; especially when you're planning on using two different tones. I'd take a sample of the Savoy Café and Ivory (both) to few of the local tile stores and ask them to match the tile with an ivory chair rail in a matte finish. Surely someone in your area is going to have just the one you need. (Think positive!) I know you said you wanted to use the pinwheel, but to me that seems very traditional and even a bit busy. I love the floor in the picture on page 3 of the brochure and the colors are basically what you've described for your room. Have you considered doing something like that maybe? It looks amazing with the subway tile in the picture and I think it would be easier to pull off a modern look with the hexigon. You could then also carry the same pattern as a border on the tub surround. I would probably leave the walls in the main part of the room alone with just the subway and chair rail. ItÂs a small room and anything more may make it look too busy. But bringing the floor into the tub area will help tie the colors to the two spaces together and I think that would look amazing. Not too much or too traditional and a nice back drop for towels and accessories. I hope that makes sense and helps.

In answer to some of your questions, The clips on my mirror are metal and seem to be pretty flat. The mirror is not glued to the wall--it's actually propped in my LR because I was stripping wallpaper in the bathroom. Arrrggghh!. kmcg: Thank you for the Lowes's suggestion. I had looked, but didn't find them--I was looking in the molding section. So, I'll go look with all the WTs and shades. I had looked at mirror mates too, but I wanted something wider and more ornate and thought I could get exactly what I wanted with a frame. The mirror in the bathroom fits almost wall to wall, so I think the only way I can attach a frame is to glue it. For those of you who have used mirror mates or wood molding, did you notch out the wood where the clips on the mirror were?
