Irrigation System Repair

Hello,

I am a relative novice and have only replaced heads on this recently installed irrigation system. The photo shows the PVC reducing tee was overtightened/bust and is in need of a replacement. Is this tee integral and used for winterizing in some way or can I simply make some cuts and use two couplers to rejoin this part of the pipeline? If the tee must be replaced, what is the proper but most efficient process to get this replaced, where should I make the cuts/etc. as obviously everything is obviously glued. I appreciate the assistance.

Can't tell what type of tee it is, but it could be to blowout your lines before winter. Pvc is pretty easy. Make sure you're buying schedule 40, not dwv. I'd cut as close to the existing tee, then you'll add a coupling at the top, a short length of pipe, then cut the bottom of the existing pipe to allow for your new tee.

Gluing pvc: Prime both pieces -> glue both pieces-> smush together -> hold while counting to 30.

Thank you.....So the tee needs to be there, I wasn't sure for a couple of reasons, but you've answered the question......

The first service call to replace the bulb in either light will negate the cost savings that you perceive. Add the power savings and the colors for WOW effect and then ask yourself again, what are you saving? I expect a 1.5 HP Blower is too much with your spa's jets. Most jets today are far more effective and more efficient than they were 10 years ago. Many don't need the blower either. Simple venturi action can provide more air pressure than you might think. Check Hayward's multi-speed pump. Your pool is not large and you'll say some on energy costs by being able to run at lower speeds. I don't know for certain, but I believe it is still a single phase motor. If it is, reconsider the Pentair offering. I know that motor is 3 Phase which is much more energy efficient. It would also allow you to skip the booster for the Legend. I'm not sure the Hayward offering would give you enough flow to run the sweep but it might. Spec in hard pipe, no flex. How are you sanitizing?

Abu, U have to start probing for the lines and dig up portions to find the line patterns. If the heads patterns don't help then start at the system valves and work outward. U should create a plan of your system. U say hose to the plants. Are these garden hose types or black flexible hose for with thin walls? Or are they hard pvc pipes? Do u know where the auto-valves and manifold are by the water source? Is the water source from your outdoor water faucet or underground with a valve shutoff? U also need to know your water pressure to the yard and flow rate. If u need to know how to find that out we can help on this forum. GL aloha

1) that head(s) is visible but not high enough to be hit by mower 2) if a pop-up head, that it goes up all the way when it starts watering 3) evaluate the sprinkler range. For ex. Does it rotate 180 deg when it's meant to go 360? 4). If no water comes out, look for nearby puddle or muddy soil, likely head or attached pipe is broken. If so it usually takes digging about 18" to find it,. Continue to examine until you find crack and replace the necessary length. HD has good inventory of diff kind heads. Take old one with you when shopping 5). Once replaced, test again to Ck your work 6). Is this is more than you want to undertake, there are a ton guys out there that do sprinkler repairs, consisting of what I've described above. Some may abandon broken pipes and simply reroute, for example if over time a shrub became huge and easier to reroute than to dig all that mess. 7) good practice to drain system for winter. If the tee is required for winterizing, there needs to be a way to shut off or disconnect the water supply easily and a way to introduce compressed air, again easily, without blowing air back through the water supply line. We can't tell from your photos. But as Ripped Jeans explains, PVC water lines are easily DIY-able. All the box stores will have the parts you need.

Thank you. The tee was burst because there was a drip at the plug following the winter (and previous winterization) and this spring, the plug was tightened too tightly, I didn't realize that causes an issue. I've made the repair and the new tee is also dripping at the plug. What are the causes of this drip? I first applied a pipe sealant to the thread, then removed and used teflon tape (which some say don't use), and in both cases, it's drip leaking. I hand tightened fully and then wrenched it 1 full turn. Still the drip, so I'm back at square one and would appreciate wisdom.
