Is my living room rug too big or is my couch too wide?

I recently purchased my first home and was in the market for a rug for our family room but didn't want to spend a fortune and found the Amber Lewis and Loloi Billie collection with large area rugs for under $500. Our room is large, about 17 ft x 15.5 ft and our couch is 113 inches wide so I went with a 10x14 rug as I wanted the rug to extend beyond the width of the couch. I'm thinking a 10x12 would have been ideal but that dimension doesn't exist in the collection. Its an open floor plan so the dining room is right next to it without a wall between the two. There are columns that create a divide that you can see in the pictures. My dilemma is whether this rug is too large or whether my couch is just too wide for the room. The rug is just wide enough so there is about 18 inches between the rug and the wall; however, when entering the room from either side of the couch (assuming I have side tables) the walkway space is such that you are walking half on and off the rug (you can see the sides in two of the pictures). At the moment I have two bar stools as placements for where I would like small side tables or even tall stools to go to serve as side tables. Maybe the answer is because my couch is too wide I shouldn't have side tables and then you can walk on the rug completely when entering the room.

Please ignore the dark built in cabinets above and below the TV. Why were so many houses built with built ins for the TV.... With how big TVs are getting they aren't functional. I plan to paint both the top and bottom cabinets white so they blend in with the walls, remove the current TV stand we have, and use an extendable mount to mount the TV between the cabinets even though it will slightly overlap the cabinets so they wont be functional but I'm hoping it will look better. And if that doesn't work then I will consider filling that cut out completely. I don't love the coffee table but that is one piece of furniture my partner does not want to change, he likes the lift top to eat dinner :) So I need to live with this for a while.

Also because the house has travertine tile, I want to use warmer colors as opposed to cooler but the couch was a recent purchase when we were in an apartment so its going to stay for the time being (I'd prefer an off-white couch over gray). I plan to change out the navy ottomans with warmer tone ottomans. Next project is hemming the curtains too.

Any advice or perspective would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
