Meiwa vs. Fukushu

I'm thinking of adding a kumquat tree to my collection, and these two varieties are the ones with the most buzz. What are the pros/cons respectively of these two varieties? I'm looking for something decorative and delicious to grow indoors in a container.

The Fukushu handle low light better and can grow on almost any rootstock. The Meiwa taste better but are very finicky in doors. They can only be grown on a few rootstocks but many are grafted to bad or marginal rootstocks and grow poorly and/or die.

I have a fukushu kumquat grown 100% indoors. Very good fruit. Very prolific. If allowed to ripen fully they can be very sweet with a citrus/floral flavor very similar to a slightly sour mandarin orange. They are so sweet that I don't find them a good variety for anything other than eating off the tree, though they hold very well. I would have to defer to others regarding the meiwa, but I can answer any questions about the fukushu. I've had mine almost 3 years, indoors the whole time, and it's a monster of a plant.

Fukushu did bloom and now has tiny fruits and also new growth coming out. Calamondin flowering nonstop since I got her in september. Centennial does nothing yet but also new since september. My seedling meiwas two leafs most of them but I see new growth on at least two of them. Big meiwas, one on C35 and one on Carizzo. Volkameriana not good for Kumquats or so I heard (no idea if that is true but fruits will not be as sweet) I think I will just order the smaller meiwa and see if I can make a beautiful tree out of it. Laura where and when die you get your Fukushu? Will they be ripe soon?

So i might get a taste of the Fukushu this year before bring in if they mature similarly. Traditionally here, its really not frost until early December. So if they are anything alike I may get a meiwa, although I've never eaten a kumquat and i hate to buy anything that I never actually ate, but I don't eat roses either, they are nice upright trees and meiwa on PT looks like a nice smaller candidate to go out in the ground with protection as a trial. Think its too late in season to settle in and does the broomstick rule apply? The specimen they are selling on your link is a 3/4 gallon so its definitely smaller.

Generally among people the Meiwa is normally thought of being the sweetest.

I like Indio Mandarinquat. Also quite easy to grow. If you like kumquats, this fruit really packs a punch!
