Pruning fire bight

kaganaden
last year

My garden has a pear tree that has had fire blight this year (my second year in this garden). The pear tree itself has previously been hacked about, producing tall, straight, unproductive growth (see pics). I've got two q's really - how far back should i trim the blight? Do i need to cut down just the side branches or the verticals as well? Also, seeing as I'm taking the saw to it, does anyone have recommendations as to how to rehabilitate this poor tree? Probably planting a new tree is the best plan long term, but we are renters here.
Thanks for any ideas!
