Healthy Eating, Weight Loss & Fitness Progress Week of 5/22
Comments (58)Mtn-- I missed your post above until just now. I had very similar experiences through covid-- and they mostly went unnoticed because for a good portion of the pandemic, I was 120% focused on work. I was not nearly as active-- I was indifferent to food and inconsistent with my meals (very likely the reason i lost weight). I didn't take a shower or get dressed every day and I didn't have good sleep patterns -- I would fall asleep around midnight, if i was lucky and then back up and working by 5am. This pattern continues to some degree even now. I never really experienced either depression or anxiety in my past but I definitely had mild forms of both through the pandemic-- and recently a short run with anxiety again. Like Mtn, I didn't know the signs to recognize it or see it creeping in. I think my disinterest in food was likely a sign-- also my inability to sleep or focus on reading. I know now, in hindsight, that when i turn to a run of mysteries, it's a sign that I am not doing my best. Mysteries are my comfort food. My hope is that eating well and taking better care of my sleep and physical self will make me less likely to experience the anxiety and mood shifts. Kswl's post really struck me-- of course, she has more serious challenges and concerns with her DH's and mother's health issues but she is right. Now is the time to take good care of ourselves so that we can face the challenges ahead-- our own and those our dear ones and our communities are facing. THIS keeps me much more motivated right now than anything. (Also the jeans in another size smaller that are waiting for me to try on!)...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 6/12
Comments (40)Just catching up with this thread. I am in the same boat as Mtn. Incredibly down compared to normal. When all the nonsense in life started, wise old me thought, This is all going to pass soon. Then Covid came, Science will win, I thought. And now, well the problems keep piling up, and science is in a stalemate with the virus. The economy is doing what its doing, which will hurt many people and affect politics. Gun violence, like teen suicides, appears to be contageous. My very deep reserve of optimism is running low. And my response has been pathetic. I just had a slice of Basque cheesecake for lunch (I didn't buy or make it, DS2 is home and he likes the kitchen, darn it. I call him, The destroyer of my good intentions.) Funky, I hope the surgery went super well and your recovery is quick....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 11/6
Comments (28)@pricklypearcactus I really do understand what you are dealing with-- and while it could be way worse as can be seen daily in the news, that doesn't change how it impacts your day to day. I went through a number of major work stressors in the period of time I allowed my weight to get out of hand -- a merger followed by a buyout then a move to another company with GREAT opportunities for me but very very long hours and periods of intense challenges. It wasn't until I started viewing my own health as every bit as important as my career, my team and the deadlines that I started to lose weight and return to a healthier life. The good thing for you is that you are aware and alert to the potential impact of your workload and stress-- I think that puts you steps ahead! Again, be good to yourself! Oh my @legomom23! We are all sisters in our food challenges-- I too find my balance leans way too heavily on fats and not enough on protein. I think I am pretty good on fiber but protein is definitely the struggle. I have only just been able to eat nuts again and I have definitely brought them back with glee -- I do like to include them in my diet because they bring in some minerals that are hard to get otherwise-- but really, I need to pull back on the quantity. I don't really think my fats are so out of control they are just way out of balance with my protein which is too low. I still struggle a bit with chewing meat and I was never a big meat eater. I do eat eggs and beans (not together!) a few times a week but I'm not much of a fan of tofu, tempeh etc. I'll need to add in some other sources of protein like quinoa and the higher protein vegetables and legumes. I was surprised to see how much protein is in wild rice-- something I love-- so I think I need to reeducate myself on good plant-based protein sources. My weight remains the same -- actually 1.2lb up from my lowest weight-- but I have maintained it. I have definitely lowered my calories and am very much back to my routine the last 2 weeks... and I have been more active. I can't explain the plateau. I started wondering if I needed to ADD calories but I don't think that's the issue. The only other thing I can point to is the diet pepsi. I am just about out of it-- and removed it from this week's shopping list so I guess I will see if removing it makes a difference. @gsciencechick I am so glad that you finally were able to go to the clinic! I appreciate the information you and @legomom23 have shared! We are all at different places in our journeys but still we all seem to struggle with some of the same challenges -- the information, experiences and support from everyone has been so helpful and I am inspired daily by all you share new recipes, new activities and your successes. ❤️🥗🥦...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 5/7
Comments (34)So i realized today that I am about 1/2 way to wear I think I will be comfortable weight wise. It's been 2 yr that I have been focused on losing and I am down 68 lb. Still a long way to go but pretty much where I was weight wise in my late 30s.. and by 40, I was down to a comfortable weight (which I maintained until my late 40s). The target I am envisioning is still larger than most women would be happy with -- but I know I don't like how I look when "skinny". My bone structure is too big. I appreciate all the support from you all .. and it helps a lot.. but I am not happy with my appearance and I don't feel strong or fit. i recently passed an important personal milestone (the weight I was when I met SO) but I expected to feel better about my progress at this point. I was more fit then... but I was also in love lol so there's that too. I will keep pressing forward as I am seeking better health AND I want to look better. They will both come. I just need to stop focusing on my appearance. It is absolutely better than it was 68lb ago and I think it will change even faster over the next 68lb. It's funny, Niece#2 is struggling with the same. She's lost 28 lb since December but is currently stalled. I give HER all teh advice I should be giving myself. So now after I talk to her, I give myself the same pep talk I've just given her. And to you all.. we really need to celebrate our successes both healthwise and weight wise and stop undermining our progress with the "not good enoughs"....See Moreeld6161
