your budget is what is making it hard for you because most cabinet companys make a wall cabinet for ie: over the toilet and have many stains and some styles to work with...but for more than 125... i think painting a cabinet your wall color is a good idea if you can find one--- or maybe you can look for a shelving unit (or an over the toilet shelving unit if you have limited space) and store things in baskets, etc....

Ah, I do have photos---was thinking I didn't but here is an old one! Not the greatest view, but gives you an idea. Textiles are old and no commitment whatsoever to them; toilet paper thingie has since been changed out for polished nickel, along with towel bars. We have a recessed medicine cabinet that we haven't put in yet but will do pre-painting. We plan to change the hardware on the drawers but not sure to what yet---got some black glass handles that fit (the kind that look like the vintage glass knobs) but husband wasn't sold on the overall look. May be able to revisit this with new paint, though I didn't invest much in them so if we come up with something better that's fine too. Also planning to take off the door on the bottom (with the holes---originally that hid plumbing but that's long gone) and put a curtain down there to store baby/kid bath items somewhere accessible. The whole space is pretty functional---just mismatched to itself and to the house. (Husband's dream involves taking out the tub and putting in a clawfoot tub, but that's pipe dreams---current tub and sink are fine and were new in '97.) Very open to blue---one of the early thoughts---but had trouble finding one that went well with the floor...and also about to paint our second bedroom blue (not a dealbreaker by any means since it would be the only other blue room, but trying to mix our colors somewhat across the house! The bedroom will probably be BM Bird's Egg.)

Don't ya just love looking out the window at them! My fence is very near the north side of my house and in the summer with the windows open I can talk to them while I'm sitting here at the computer. I can see them from the south windows, too, so no matter where I am, I know what they're doing. Yours are QH?

If you're going to the expense of completely remodeling the bathrooms, especially replacing the shower, it seems like the expense of a single 36" vanity is small percentage of that cost. If you love the vanities, by all means, save them and re-install. If you don't love the vanities, I don't imagine the cost to replace the vanities is going to break the bank. Keep in mind that "changing tile" in a shower is not a simple matter of removing the tile and re-installing. It's fully gutting the shower to the studs and bare sub-floor and rebuilding a fully waterproof shower and then tiling over top. Most of your expense will be in labor. I would recommend going to a real tile store and bringing home a bunch of samples that you like. Then put them up against elements you're keeping until you find the look you want. I don't really understand the "farmhouse" look so I can't really make a recommendation on materials for you.
