My string of hearts've grown quite long, so this summer I tried a few ways to propagate it. I think I should share with you what worked best for me: - I cut a stem with at least 2 nodes and than cut of the leafs on the lower node. - I stuck this end in soil (well draining). I used a small pot and didn't bury too deep the stem, but you have to bury the node, because that's where roots can easily form. It began to develop roots in a week:

These reproduce either by cuttings or from tubers (the little white ball-like things that form in time down the length of the growing vines). I haven't done well w/ cuttings of this myself (have also heard/known of folks suggesting pegging down the cuttings as they're coiled in the pot (w/ bobby pins, papers clips, bits of pipe cleaners, etc.), to ensure contact btwn the leaf/root node & the mix. I've had better luck cutting back a cutting that has a tuber on the end & planting the tuber in the mix. I see you're leary of cutting back a long vine, but you'll have to if you want more of the plant. You could cut one vine w/ the tuber at its top, plant the tuber, just barely under the mix & then take a couple of cuttings from the rest of the vine. This way you only cut 1 vine but have benefit of having 2 or 3 pieces to try to root. Good luck & enjoy, fun plants.

Hi Alice, I think your Ceropegia woodii looks fine, this isn't etiolation. It's the plant's natural growth habit; sort of vining. Pls. pluck off the yellow leaf, I think it's just aged out, not a problem. Any idea what kind of soil that is? Those little white balls at the leaf node are tubers; the plants' manner of reproduction (one of them). Looks normal & healthy. Here's some cuttings I was water rooting to share. See the tuber in lower right hand corner? Here's one of the tubers . A different pot of it, grown back in after a trim, west window, good light. Let's see if I can find some flower pix. Yes, I smile at these other worldly blooms, one surprised me last Oct. Mighty cool plants & fast growers too.

I know & grow this plant for years, it's a Ceropegia woodii (an Asclepaid & cousin of Hoyas). Can't see the shriveled tips well enough to tell. I suspect it's just mechanical damage, like it was stepped on or bumped. Just pinch off the damaged tips & they'll restart new growth elsewhere on the stem. These are not the delicate plants they may appear, they're rugged & sturdy & will recover just fine. My leaves have a different pattern, but it's the same plant. What kind of light is yours getting?
