Need help to make screen porch and deck more inviting
Comments (23)First, you are so luck to have such a wonderful getaway vacation home! It is on a beautiful lot. I agree with missymoo as well, and also what Olychick said. Something about that table smack dab in the middle of the room seems to block entry into the screened porch. I love the idea of a sofa against the wall, something like what robo posted with some comfy cushions and arms, and a chair for reading with a footstool that could also double as an extra seat. Add a small cocktail table you can also use for a tray of snack food. The bar cart is also a great idea. Encourages people to gravitate to where the food and drinks are. You could also string up some lighting along the perimeter and it would look very inviting. Do you get a lot of sun on the deck? It looks shady so I would think a new round table with chairs for seating would be fine and then move your grill & the pub table out there. You can get some pretty nice chairs that swivel and rock. I have also seen some benches that double as storage for the cushions so that might be an option if there is room. That would keep cushion maintenance down for you when you aren't there....See Moresmall kitchen how do I make it feel bigger
Comments (4)I would encourage you to take advantage of the layout help here. There are some amazingly talented and generous people who will make sure you get the best possible layout for your space and needs--for free! I have remodeled three different kitchens with this forum and each one has been better because of the input I got here. As far as pure looks, I think low contrast helps make a space look bigger. So for example one combination is white cabinets, white appliances, light countertop, white backsplash. A quick google search turned up a BHG article. I am sure you can find many more with suggestions. http://www.bhg.com/kitchen/small/make-a-small-kitchen-look-larger/ i will also say that properly sized appliances can make a small ktichen look and work better. Our first kitchen was tiny and the previous owner had shoehorned in a regular refrigerators. Switching out to a great smaller one made the kitchen a 100 times better....See Morehow can I make this space feel more homey
Comments (51)I would do two main things. When the dining table chairs have served their time, I would personally replace the set with something more cosy and eclectic. Secondly, I would replace the generic looking artwork (apologies if it's not - can't see it too well through the chandelier) with something that has meaning to you. Don't worry about staging it, or it will just just look beautifully generic once you're done - could be a favourite photograph you want to enlarge, the kids artwork, a family heirloom etc etc. The other stuff is easy - flowers, a nice table setting, etc. No need of a rug under the table unless something truly speaks to you - there is something nice and expansive and uncluttered about the flow as is. Enjoy your new home!...See MoreHow to make kitchen bigger? I want more counter space and storage .
