Housekeepers during a Kitchen Remodel?

What did you do with your housekeepers during your kitchen remodel? Do they still come? Is the price reduced because they are skipping a big part that is normally a lot of work? Any thoughts on handling this are appreciated.

Usually one finds it difficult or nearly impossible to find a great housekeeper. Unless you want to lose her, pay her the regular amount because the rest of the house is cluttered with boxed items from the kitchen, the temporary kitchen set up in the dining room or laundry, and the homeowners are more grumpy than normal! You are going to be under stress and will appreciate the clean sanctuary.

The drywall will need to be repaired. If you're doing a tile backsplash, then the repairs don't have to be 100% perfect, just flat and smooth. The tile person will feather the thinset out a bit to account for slightly out of plumb walls. BTW, drywall damage isn't the painter's "fault". Damage to existing drywall is perfectly normal and to be expected when removing a tile counter or backsplash and should be accounted for in the GC's bid. If the GC failed to plan for that in their bid, then the additional painter or drywaller's fee would be the responsibility of the GC regardless.

Thanks for all the advice! I really appreciate everyone's input. Unfortunately, we can't create a deep enough shelf in the uppers to accommodate a microwave. The max depth allowed is 13" due to the space the Wolf will be installed (We have a fairly small kitchen). The only options are to either put the mw on the counter (again, small kitchen = limited counter space) or put it under the counter. I'm considering the under counter option. And I didn't even think about whether any vent upgrades would be needed, yikes! Thanks, a2gemini and babushka_cat for your input on that. The ripple keeps going :( I realize this really is the one chance we'll have to make the upgrade and I don't want to blow it. But, then again, it's coming at a fairly steep price. Lots to think about. I'll be mulling it over up until the very last minute.

From my understanding, not all cabinets need to be acclimated - I'd guess few are. If they're being assembled onsite, and if the temperature/humidity of where they've been stored is much different from the house they'll live in. Hardwood floors, which are 'made' onsite, are a much different situation than plywood/MDF cabinets which have already been assembled. And the cabinets will have to constantly adjust for the changing temperatures and humidity a kitchen experiences throughout a given day and time of year regardless.

Shilpa: I think this is the way to go. I have seen a lot of pics with a gap above the upper cabinets and it is painted above the backsplash. By doing this I’d be able to continue the kitchen into the dining room. strategery: if I had the money I would totally redo everything as split levels are very crammed for space and the original design was not very good. wish it was in my budget to go crazy on this remodel because I agree that it would be the way to go.

I'd definitely keep paying them the same amount! I'm guessing they usually allot a certain approximate amount of time to clean your home; if they find they are finishing the job more quickly because they aren't cleaning the kitchen, you could suggest they find something to deep clean that isn't part of their usual routine(e.g scrub the shower grout, clean the windows, launder window coverings, etc). Or send them home early and be grateful you have a great cleaner!
