Hello LORIA, Gosh...where to start....Barbara J and Nike are group 3 pruners which means you have to cut them way back in early Spring. Do you want to fumble amongst the roses to prune? As for fading...I would not recommend ANY of the multi colored clematis. The BEST for full sun are your white ones. I have a black mailbox with a Miss Bateman-white, on one side and H.F. Young-blue, on the other. Neither one fades. I have Earnest Markham -red, Ramona -blue, and a General Sikorski-blue in full sun. Henryii is a great one for the sun...he's white. Ken Donson is excellent also. He's a blue. All of these are group 2 pruners. To be honest, all Clematis do better in the shade, but there are some good sun loving ones as well. As for size, Ken Donson, and Henryii will give you 8" blooms. The others are smaller. As for your wooden post, will you be using some sort of chicken wire wrapped around your post to allow the plant to climb? I actually have some attached to a treillis with large gaps. Agree with Jeanne about the 2nd and 3rd one. I seriously doubt that Lowes would carry Negritianka and Negritianka has reddish purple anthers which yours doesn't. Definitely not Ruutel which has purple anthers and brown filaments which yours doesn't. The first one is a puzzler to me and it may be the color of the sepals in your picture that is throwing me.

Hi sandy, I am a lurker from some of the other forums. Your Ramona and Warsaw are lovely! I have Ramona and have been so discouraged as she blooms nicely in spring, but gets fried in summer each year, especially the last two. Your hints were helpful, perhaps I need to move her. Not sure of your source but clematis do NOT stop growing without a trellis or other support system - they either create their own (sprawling up though other plants or any other vertical structure) or they act as low spreading groundcovers. But if you want vertical growth, providing some sort of climbing support is advised. Fishing line is a great idea - it is virtually invisible - but make sure whatever you use to attach the fishing line allows some distance/air space between the wall and the vine. This will allow for proper air circulation (reducing disease issues) and keep any wet foliage away from the side of the house.
