May is a green month in england
Comments (9)England in May...can be exquisite...Campanula, can you guess the name of this old friend?...one of the first to bloom and has this month as part of it's namesake Your wonderful allotments or "commons" are so civil. I wish our city planners had the imagination to have these areas set aside for us. This photo shows the old red brick row houses to the right, allotments in the center, and to the left was the Thames River...and across the street (behind me) was Kew Gardens. Last photo shows the vast greenery...also in Kew Gardens...May is a green month in England...I have to agree with you Campanula. Has the spring weather started to produce some heat units yet...I know you've had a wet go of it? Melissa, has the weather improved in central Italy? The reason why I ask is because I'm heading that way shortly....See MoreStrange month of June
Comments (17)Oh no, they are still there, lurking. Just hybernating later into the year. NO desire to move about in this weather like I have been feeling...Sorry That is what a greens keeper at the local golf club tells me. They are just waiting to move about, and get an appetite once the ground gets warm and the soil starts to dry out. Watch out...:-( I too, have had the worst summer ever so far. It is like living in a cave..Dark, gloomy and raw for days on end. Now when the sun does come out for a day, all my plants wilt and the new growth can't take the heat..Like a shock to them. I too saw NO june bugs, but I havn't seen them like I use to years ago for the past few Junes.I havn't seen any around here for at least 4 years. I remember June nights being warm and toasty. But seems to me the Junes and August nights are slowly getting cooler and cooler, with only July being the hottest month..If we are lucky. Last year, we only got about 5 days of weather hot enough to make you want to go to the beach, in July! In Augusts past, like last year, it never made it over 80 degrees with some nights into the 40's.. I have a problem with my roses though. I just noticed this am. All the leaves and buds are falling off all my roses, along with some branch tip dying back...Can this be from just plane ole rot, to much rain, and lack of sunshine? Thanks...See More~~june queen of the month~~sue g/sguanzon
Comments (34)I received boxes from Maryanne and from Debbie on Friday! I opened Maryanne's to find festively wrapped Happy Birthday items - mini first aid kit (good idea I'm always poking myself - lol!), montbretias mixed bulbs and pecan brittle (nummy!) and PLANTS! a rose of sharon, yarrow, sedum, mint (smells wonderful) and a tradescantia - this looks just like one I lost last year - was one of my favorites - this is perfect! and Victoria Secret bodysplash and cream, a Hallmark mag (never seen this one - thanks) and a Garden design mag (beautiful) and a kitchen towel with a gardening angel on it. Thanks so much Maryanne! Debbie's box included a home sweet home plaque (went right up in my kitchen), a bouncing butterfly hanging (haven't seen these - really neat), a parrot flag, a frog on a rock (I actually have two smaller ones like this and I put this guy in the middle he fits right in!) and a beautiful large sturdy garden tote full of garden tools - thanks so much for the thoughtful gifts, Debbie! It's still great to be Queen!...See Moredawn's june special person of the month
Comments (44)Sorry I haven't posted before this, I have been recovering from jet lag after my trip and sorting out the house, etc. There were two wondedrful boxes waiting for me at the post office when I got back from England, and they were both full of lovely presents. The first was from lunamoon, and it contained a large packet of all kinds of seeds, including white liatris (I winter sowed the purple last year, now I have white too, yippee!) and some columbines, and a great assortment of all sorts of others to add to my stash. There was also a lovely desk set, containing a journal, address book (I really needed one of those, didn't realize it) and a memopad. Then a loofah sponge and some body wash and body lotion and sweetpea-scented bath salts. Rose, lavender, and hazelnut coffee scented candles, a really cute pair of cat earrings and a beautiful copper and stained glass butterfly, that is already out in the butterfly garden. The second package was from mamabirrd and contained some lovely treasures. A country-style painted wooden shelf with knobs and painted teacups and teapot (I really loved that!), a cute chicken pincushion, a new pair of gardening gloves (always useful!) a Garden sign with arrow pointing the way to the garden, and a beautiful glass bluebird. I want everyone to know that I will treasure my time spent as Special Person of the Month. I got some great presents, and have made some friendships here, and now am looking forward to putting a great box together for dawnb. Went shopping the other day and found some cute things to send, but have still more shopping to do. Not real sure what a Fossil tin is, but I am sure I can find some great stuff to send. It's been great fun! Thank you to everyone! Alison...See MoreBrandon Garner
