From what I see in the pics the rug really does not work with what you have maybe a change might be good and for sure we need to see the whole room. IMO often in divorces things get fought over for no other reason than just spite . I think you are due for a change let him have it and move on. I agree it is a very nice rug but really there are 1000s out there for fresh new look.

I think Aubusson is the name of the pattern. I got lots of results on Etsy when I did a search. Look here and see if there's one you love. If you do buy a new one, I would get something much larger if you're using it in a living room, or else layer it over something like a seagrass or sisal. You want at least the front legs of your furniture to sit on the rug. I'm sorry for what you're going through and hope you're able to create a new beautiful room for YOU!

Why does he get the rug if you both want it? I do agree that if the furniture barely showing in the photo is what you’re keeping, there may be a better rug for you.

Thank you all for your comments. The rug would normally be anchored by the furniture and would not be "floating" in the room as pictured (this was done just to take photos). While I appreciate the opinions of those who say I can find something better/nicer/bigger for my space, what I am looking for is something quite similar in size, color, pattern, and tone. @stley from what I've found, Aubusson is the general style of the rug and ANDRIA might be the pattern name, but it doesn't come up on any searches. Again, I appreciate the comments!

do you live near a high end carpet store? A visit to them with as many pictures as you have including any information on the back might be your best option on finding exact or comparable

Can you negotiate? He gets something else, you keep the rug?

Let him have it and find something new and better. it really doesn't work with the beige and blue furnishings you have and although the Aubusson design never really goes out of style, it's a traditional pattern and your furnishings look to be more modern. Get a fresh start and don't look back. He only wants the rug because you want it. Put a curse on the rug and give it to him.

These rugs are wool. Some are more traditional than others.

This is a nice rug and the carved style isn't really trendy right now. Fake faded ones are (see above). Typeandrun has good advice. You need a rug store. Are you willing to go used?

Is there any brand info on the tag?

Give yourself some time to at least see what‘s out there and maybe step back to consider a whole new look for this next stage in your life (could be quite uplifting). A vintage persian or an oushak are great options.

I’d give him the chair on the right of the fireplace and move one of the other chairs there. (It’s a good time to access room and updating accessories/changing room a bit could be fun and you may be thanking him for taking the rug).

You're not going to find a rug that was made 25+ years ago. Rugs are so fashion-forward, they change seasonally.

I understand. I do not like the new style rugs and I detest the faded ones. I like the carved style. I lost one I loved and it wasn't even a really good one, but the dog we had destroyed it. It wasn't the dogs fault, she was sick.

Look in antique stores and at estate sales. Marketplace is another good one.

There are different types of rugs.

Some rugs do come and go with fashions, but other rugs can be passed on for generations, especially nice wool ones. An "older" classic style rug is never out of fashion.

If one can keep a light-colored rug looking good for as long as our BadgerOP here, one need not look for disposable fashion rugs.

Your rug reminds me of the chinese rugs that were so popular in the 70's and 80's. You really don't see alot of this style anymore but any good rug shop should have some Ousaks to show you. Your rug is in the style of an aubusson but is certainly not an aubusson.

I agree it looks like the Chinese aubusson style carved wool rugs from 40 years ago. If you find a good used one you can have it professionally cleaned. I struggled to give away one from my parents house...but it was quite large.

There are literally hundreds of rugs like this…on the internet at very good prices…try looking at Wayfair and Rugs USA …to reassure yourself ..most patterns are still being made today…so yours being old ….doesn’t make it impossible to replace…if it comes to that…hate to say this but i would avoid Ballard as they will sell you the same rugs with less choices and at a much higher mark up..
