Do you know what kind of bees? I'd might just block/seal it off, not sure the life cycle of your bees,...they might have hatched and ready to lay new eggs in spring? I haven't looked into, perhaps here is a start,... Here is a link that might be useful: Wild bees

If you spray for carpenter bees, you will kill all the native mason bees you attract to your nesting spaces! So that is something huge to consider. If you have an out building that you do not spray, that might be a consideration - however you will probably still kill off that population. Now is the time to work on changing over your carpenter bee habits. Fill each hole with diatomaceous earth or borax. Then take a dowel and plug each hole up. That will stop new bees from emerging. Spraying in the holes will not totally eliminate the baby bees in there, only the first. There will be several in each hole. After you do that, then you can put up the bee houses for your carpenter bees. It really does work wonderfully well. Each fall, just take your Carpenter Bee houses down and clean out the tubes and kill the baby bees inside if you don't want them. Wash them well to remove bee fermones. Hang them again for next year. It's the existing fermones of baby bees that attract the new adult bees (and the babies also come back as adults) to lay more babies in your house. I had some good luck keeping the bees out by simply regularly washing my home and stopping up bee holes, and removing all mud dauber tubes (after hatching) and using this method for carpenter bees. We did get a lot of them when I moved here.

mlkbskt (Margie, right?) I am cheating a little to get these pics. Got a tip about five years ago (from a really good photographer) to get better pics of the Blues if you offer mealworms, to put a branch or something they can land on before going to the feeder. So I used to find a nice large branch in our woods and pound a fence post in next to the deck and attach the branch to it so they would land on there before going into the feeder. My mealworm feeder is a wooden jailhouse style one that my husband made (this keeps other larger birds like BlueJays and Robins from eating all the mealworms) and it is clamped onto a wooden 3step ladder. I used to set it just on the deck but the Robins figured out if they pushed really hard they could get into the feeder, with it being on the ladder they cannot do this anymore. This year I decided to do things a little different and put the branches in large flowerpots with vining plants in the pots then I just went from there and came up with this.... I really like this on the deck. All the flowers make the ugly feeder look much better. So in my pictures the birds have landed on these branches on the deck. The feeder is out about 16 feet from my dining room window so I just stay in the house and snap away. Donna

It's so interesting to read this (but I truly am sorry for your plight) because I JUST had a conversation with some good friends about this. I'm thinking of redoing the cabinets in my kitchen. My friends and I have shared trades people - they recommended a wonderful man who is a cabinet maker but also makes these exquisite clear vertical grain cedar screen doors. $$$, but so top quality. After I saw theirs, I had him make one for me and, oh my, he is a perfectionist - furniture quality screen door that closes gently, no slamming required. He took it home to microplane it a few times to get it exact. Wonderful finish. He and I talked about my kitchen cabinets and after the gorgeous screen door, I told my friends I was thinking of hiring him to do the kitchen. "Oh no, he is a nut case." They think he's really over the top on the perfectionism and would NEVER be able to finish a kitchen - nothing would ever be perfect enough. They suggested a cabinet maker who did my bathroom cabinets and on my recommendation built a window seat for them. Gorgeous things all. But I then hired him to redo a second bathroom and he totally flaked out; had some kind of nervous breakdown or something??? So he's out. Then we started talking about all the men who build cabinets that we've known over the years, all of whom seem to be (unstable or something). One other committed suicide. Is it the exacting work? Is it work that draws a certain personality? I don't know and I mean no offense to those who have perfectly lovely spouses, relatives and friends who are cabinet makers who are not like these men we've experienced. But it made me so curious why we've had these high percentages of guys making cabinets who either start out with problems or end up with them. Now your guy. I hope you get some resolution and that if he really is sick, he gets well soon.
