Jenny, I think if I'd gone floral with drapes instead of a larger pattern for the couch, I wouldn't be so hung up on this. I've learned so much here, but I don't know what the rule of the thumb is for mixing patterned couches with patterned area rugs. I looked through every magazine I own over the weekend, and also did several searches here and it seems nobody has patterned couches. I'll keep looking though. Valinsv, I'd like to find something for less than $500. I think it was Johnmari who got some great deals from Home Decorators last September, and if I have to wait until then to catch their sale, I will. I've got two kids in college in the fall and I'm really tightening up the belt here. Meg, that's got all the right colors, but (as usual) my eyes are saying too busy + too busy = big mess. You don't think that's too busy with my couch? I'm relying on you people in the know, because I'm not exaggerating when I say I stink at this....lol.

Home Interiors & Jodie White, Sorry guys. I'm new to this. Obviously, i need to create an Ideabook! I tend to go more towards muted brown, red, yellow/gold, rust colors (in past), but open to other somewhat neutral palettes. I actually love the console, but was considering an antique cream color (if I could make that work?). My tastes tend to be traditional, rustic, a little farmhouse (pottery barn, restoration hardware, ballard designs) but with so many current needs, all those in a TIGHT budget! Aktillery9, i do like all of those looks. My husband did just tell me, due to wiring, there is chance we may not be able to mount on flat wall as i hoped, so i may be forced to go back to corner console again. :( When I get a chance, I'll post some of my fav looks.

Where did you end up? I’m in the same boat…the gal at CB suggested black because it would make the couch look more crisp and keep it from looking too grey or dirty…but I’m not sure black is my style plus I worry about it showing blonde hair haha . She said blue can just make the couch look more blue/cool because of the undertones. It’s tough!!

I deleted my posts due to no response. Also, I skimmed through your other post and I notice your Mom is 91. And, there is very little, to no indication of what your Mom would prefer here. I would encourage you to keep any new rug in the same colorway as your Mom’s present rug - with the warm brown tones PLUS REDS in the rug. Alternatively, maybe just get her present rug cleaned... It’s a nice rug. You can look into environmentally friendly ”green” type of cleaning services. And why not just let her keep her current wall art ? Art is really a very personal thing. If she loves the art - just leave it. It’s her space. To “lighten up” the space - and only if your Mom is open to the idea - maybe add a floor lamp.
