ideas for outside of my home

I don’t know what to do with this stone any ideas? I’m not loving the color of it… should I paint the trim to make it look better?

I think your stone is handsome. It would blend with the rest of the house better if the house was a pale cream instead of bright white.

Personally, I’d pull off the old awning above the triple window.

I like the stone. It looks very good there. Its the white house, that doesnt go with the stone. I would pick a color from the stone, and repaint the house.

What are you thinking for budget to improve the exterior? Is the current home a particularly good buy or is it in a great location or some other redeeming feature inside that we can't see? That porch roof totally ruins the look of what could be a very cute home. It's placed too low and frankly looks like a poorly executed DIY. Just removing that front porch will improve the entire house. However you can get to the next level by putting in a different, well designed and professionally constructed front entry. Check out a few of these insp pics below: Scroll through houzz to see what appeals to you because it would be a big change - both to the house and your wallet. Use professionals for the design and build. Check to see if the improvements will be in line with the neighborhood or will be an over-improvement before you do anything. A good appraiser can help with this aspect. Or find a property that doesn't need all of the changes.

Here are suggestions for a general layout scheme. You'll want shrubs that can easily be kept low in front of windows. Since other areas have even lower features, does not look like good places for shrubs. I would do solid groundcover. (By solid I mean not a ring at the edge surrounding a bald mulch area.) For example, Liriope muscari. By 'flowering' tree I mean medium size ... like Redbud as an example.

If your window trim is white and fascia are white, use white gutters and downspouts but if your siding is a dark color, paint the downspouts the same or similar color as your siding (with paint intended for metal if the gutters are metal) so the downspouts will visually "disappear". White and gray are not the only colors worth considering. If you are in a wooded area, also consider sage green. If you are in a more sandy desert area, consider a pale brown/tan (without the pink or yellow hue). Where you live, what kind of lot you have and how you maintain the yard adjacent to your home can affect how much and quickly your siding will get dirty. If the current paint on your home is looking really bad -- if it's peeling or cracking or just really dirty -- it will need a serious cleaning so consider having it pressure washed before repainting it. You may be able to rent a pressure washer if you are DIY inclined.

I’ll definitely think about that! What do you think about the color of the house? The brown is very patchy and faded from the sun in most spots, should I hire a professional to repaint it brown or change it up with a different color or shade?

Your stone is lovely! You could create an entirely new look by removing the shutters and awning, painting the white areas more of a ” beige”, replacing the storm door with a full-glass version, and getting killer landscaping/ hardscaping!

I was a little more daring, painted the siding charcoal with white trim, and wood doors. Removed the shutters and if metal, paint the awning in black and bring it up, it looks too low. Also did some landscaping and spruced-up the carport.

i love the stone and would keep the midcentury charm. it is warm in tone so to play it up and make it a feature i would paint the siding cream and when it comes time to replace the roof i would also do that in a warm tone (brown not gray or black). And then i would remove the overgrown landscaping and start fresh. for the garage i would paint it the same cream as the siding and if you want to make it a feature paint the raised panels in one of the stone colors otherwise all cream. and i would not add shutters for now and see how it looks.

I like the charcoal in the picture above more than the white, but, it doesnt seem quite right. I much prefer the goldish color above posted by ffpalms. That color blends the entire house together, and is a very nice look.

I would remove the front carport, and probably the awning and look at some cream or off white colors from the stone for the siding.

- anyone have an idea maybe that doesn’t involve painting the siding? I feel like that will be expensive.
