Pendant Lighting
Comments (13)Cheri, too bad about not being able to use them in your house but I bet your house looks great. LOL Benji. Vin, it didn't even really occur to me until Pal mentioned it. Pal, thanks for the explanation. I'm thinking with every single element off center from every other element in my kitchen, I'll be fine. (sigh, at least I hope so.) But I also would have probably tortured this to death until it looked like something graphically, and it doesn't improve the floor plan particularly. And it still doesn't completely satisfy because now what is beyond the island does not like up with that doorway anyway. And then there wouldn't have been enough room for my dining room table anyway. Or there'd be room but no room to walk around it. 21" walking space on either side of the table in your last version just doesn't do it. And anyway, then the bookcases are off center in the living room. ;)...See MoreKitchen Island Pendant lights
Comments (1)Yeah, just line up your lighting as if there wasn't an additional overhang for seating. you don't need task light focused above seating anyway....See MoreIsland Pendant Lighting advice
Comments (1)Pendant lights for this situation are best going to be centered on the island and in the first / third quadrant farthest away from the stove. Centered because the eye will look at the island as the anchor and in the first / third so that they emphasize and encourage people to sit at the bar and engage with you. Enjoy and let us know how it turns out!...See MorePendant Overload? Modern Pendant Light Pairings in Open Concept House
Comments (15)@ RL - very good points re: cleaning. @groveraxle - goodness, I love your candor. Here's the thing. Those are knock-off Beat pendants and they're served me over the last 5 years but I'm ready for an update. They are also very low wattage so provide very little down lighting. I'm also SUPER fussy about finishes matching, and I'm doing chrome faucets and pulls. I don't like brushed + chrome look lol. I'm picky-picky. We have vaulted 16+ foot ceilings and the space feels large at over 20 feet long (even though the island breaks up the middle), I really feel like we need pendants over the island to break up the space. But I am definitely going to hold off on the pendants over the eating bar. @Patricia Colwell - i love that look but probably for another room. Thank you so much everyone!...See MoreUser
