Best brand of landscaping fabric?
Comments (25)I no longer use any landscape fabric bc they all allow the weeds to grow and get tangled thruout the fabric making a complete mess when you try to remove a weed. Now I won't use anything the won't decompose in the soil. Such as newspapers, cardboard, wood chips, leaves, pine needles, or compost. Your own compost is prob the best. So what if I have to replace it every year. The IS how Mother Nature does it. I save all my cardboard just for spring - well after the sun warms the soil. Any weed sprouts are much easier to remove. :) My neighbors all despise leaves - I collect them :) ps. I haven't fertilized in years....See MoreWhere to find inexpensive red, white & blue fabric
Comments (8)The price of quilt fabric at my Joann's ranges from $2.49 to $6.99. With the coupons, it's a bargain. Even the patriotic prints are $6.99 and that's what they are listed for on their website too. Use one or two of those, along with the $2.49 in other red and blue prints and it's a pretty affordable quilt. I agree that muslin makes a good backing. If you want a print though, use the coupon for a large cut of one of the prints you like so you have enough for the backing plus some for the piecework. If you aren't happy with Joann's though, check any of the on-line quilt shops and search the sale items. Last spring I found a beautiful beige fabric with small deep red and blue stars for just $3/yd. I bought enough to use as backing on a couple QOV lap quilts. Comments (9)You didn't mention what size duvet cover you want to make. You can find double width fabric that works perfectly for duvet covers. It is 110" wide, so plenty wide for a Queen size duvet cover, or even a King (less seam allowances you'd have about 13" of overhang on each side). That would work for most beds unless you have a super deep mattress. Here are some ideas in extra wide cotton or cotton blend, so easy care. I'd pair them with a coordinating fabric on the back side so you can have a nice reveal when you fold back the duvet. Or of course, you can make top and bottom the same. Gosh, some of these are gorgeous and I could build a bedroom around any of them so easily. This is from Designer Fabrics which is in Toronto, Canada. I'm sure there must be similar stores in your area but I don't know names of them. If you search online for double wide fabric you'll find some places for sure that will carry it. Comments (3)Thank you Stated Home. It's interesting that you say the feel should be more or less the same if the dimensions are the same on a given manufacturer's sofas, because I was expecting that to be the case and it DEFINITELY was not when I went on my reconnaissance trip the other day. All of the La-Z-Boy sofas I sat on had the same seat depth, but the cushions felt remarkably different between styles, as did the pitch of the backs and seats, overall springiness of the support, etc. Same deal at Bassett, although in their case it was due to the fact that they offer several different options in terms of cushions (memory foam, innerspring, down, etc.). This couch is our main living space seating so I really want to be sure we love it! I appreciate your list of other quality brands and I'll keep an eye out for them when we go shopping. If you have any furniture retailers in the NYC/NJ metro area to recommend, I'd be grateful for those recommendations as well! DH hates furniture shopping so the fewer places I have to drag him looking for a high-quality, varied selection, the better!...See Morebtydrvn
