Is your aisle is as skinny as it looks? Neither arrangement works well with super tight aisles.

You need to show a scaled drawing ... right now it looks like your isle/walkway is 30" !!

Will there be a hood over the cooktop?

How does the kitchen relate to other spaces/rooms?

No hood vent, because of vaulted ceilings. im going with a downdraft vent. Its open concept.

The original plan was to make the peninsula the same size as the back wall and center the cook top. But when the cabinets were about to be installed the peninsula looked huge. So I eliminated one of the cabinets to make the

peninsula smaller and not look bigger than the back wall. The front door is on the left and the kitchen is on the back right of the house, so the angle made the peninsula appear larger.

Since I eliminated one 18” cabinet to make the peninsula smaller, the cook top is still centered with the sink, but not on the peninaula. Should the cook top be centered on the peninsula for a better work triangle?

That design should not exist. Period. Its horrible, and horribly unsafe. Snd will br filthy, with inadequate ventilation. You can do WAY better with the help of a kitchen designer.

Without a to scale plan there is no way to help you. Downdrafts are close to useless BTW. I never like a sink directly across from the cooking appliance since those are the 2 busiest spaces in a litchen Who designed this ? I do not like kitchens open to LRs so IMO a wall there would have allowed for a much nicer working kitchen.

Questions - how wide is the walkway? Are you doing seating on the peninsula? You will need to add 10 - 12 " plus the over hang to the peninsula for it to be safe to sit at. The microwave should be closer to the ref. Would you consider moving the peninsula over so it is an island? Coming in through the garage and having to walk all the way through the center of the kitchen would be a no go for me.

It sounds like you already have the cabinets??

I like to work with the sink and cooktop back to butt (assuming there is decent space between them) so I don't object to either of your sink/cooktop scenarios. The different shouldn't make much of a difference unless you are heavily into symmetry.

It would be better to swap the cooktop and sink, or at minimum make your peninsula counter deeper. A proper hood on the back wall would be much nicer than a downdraft. And you'd end up with more work space on the sink run.)

Unfortunately, there is a window above the sink. So sink has to stay where it is. The distance from counter to peninsula is 52” apart.

The peninsula will be base cabinets, a knee wall for electrical, and wall cabinets to create a 48” wide peninsula.

The wall oven will be in the same cabinet as the cooktop. So the downdraft exhaust fan will be built into the knee wall/wall cabinet for access.

I originally wanted an island, but a long, large fireplace on the living room wall would obstruct the walk way.

I wouldn't have them line up - that way if one person is cooking one person can work at the sink without bumping into each other.

No seating at the peninsula? Good. From what I see, you don't have enough safety space behind the cooktop just for "walking by" let alone someone sitting there. (There should be at least 18" behind it with no seats & 24" with seating)

Others are right, this is far from the best design you could have had...I can think of at least two different designs that would have worked much better. But, since it sounds like you already have the cabinets, you have to deal with what you have. So...

• Are you the only person in the home who will ever be working in the Kitchen?
• How wide is that aisle b/w the sink counters and the peninsula? I assume you are using standard 24" deep base cabinets, so accounting for the base cabinets + door/drawer fronts + counter overhang the sink run is 25.5" deep. How far is it to the counters on the other side --- standard counter overhangs are 1.5" from the cabinet box (which is what the 24" depth is -- just the box)?
• There also appears to be a doorway to the garage -- how busy is it? Do you have kids & their friends using it throughout the day, especially during meal prep time?

I really hope what we're seeing in the last few pictures is not correct...it looks like you will have a 29" wide aisle.

• Each box appears to be 2.667". There are 9 boxes for 24" deep cabinet, so 24 / 9 = 2.6667
• The space b/w the cabinet boxes on the left and the ones on the right are 12 boxes and 12 x 2.6667 = 32"
• Next, subtracting 1.5" from each side and you get 32" - 1.5" - 1.5" = 29"
• Will you even be able to fit a door + trim in those 29"?
• What about the refrigerator? Is it a true built in (so only 27"D total) OR is it a counter-depth (really at least 30" deep and sometimes more)? Note that "counter-depth" only refers to the refrigerator carcass/box, it does not count doors & handles. That means your aisle is even narrower in front of the refrigerator.

At this point, I would not recommend lining them up. In fact, I think you may need to add that cabinet you took out back so you will have decent safety as well as work & landing space on the open end of the peninsula.

Once the questions above are answered, I can reply with more help.

Kitchen was boxed in. We demoed two walls to open it up. Peninsula will be 48” wide (base/knee wall/wall). I just put the base and wall cabinet back to back for a visual. They are not staying like that. The distance from the cabinets that will be along the wall to the peninsula is around 60” which should be plenty for two people to move around. Its a very small kitchen I am limited on options. Fridge, sink, and dishwasher will be on the back wall. The oven, microwave, and cooktop will be in the peninsula. Im remodeling this mid-century rancher to make it very modern.

I prefer the cooktop along the wall, not in an island or peninsula….there is a bigger chance of an accident with pot handles on an island or peninsula. The drawing doesn’t seem to be drawn to scale. Your walkway between the wall cabinets and the peninsula is only about 30” in your drawing…you need more space to allow two people to move around each other.

That's a good aisle. You will have a "two-butt kitchen". It won't matter if the sink and cooktop line up because there is room for both to be used at once. It's more important to not have the dishwasher open into the cooktop area, but again, looks like you have plenty of space.

As Fori said, if you really have 60", then sink & cooktop back-to-back probably won't be an issue...UNLESS that doorway to the garage is a busy door and there's a lot of traffic. Even 60" might be an issue if two people are working in the Kitchen.

When you say the peninsula will be 48" wide, do you really mean deep? I think that's what you meant.

Are any of the pics above to-scale? They're all over the place, so it's difficult for us to make recommendations not knowing what's the real scale & what the measurements really are.

That walking space will be much better. You will be fine. I would probably have kept that extra cabinet you said you were getting rid of. I think you will need it.

I think the position of the cooktop should be whatever gives you the best cabinet layout - a nice pots and pans drawer base , maybe a 4 drawer base for cooking utensils and oven mitts or a nice cabinet for a tray divider..
