Kitchen layout disaster?

In a couple of weeks we are starting a renovation of a room that should be a kitchen. It was planned so in the past, but currently it is a living room, meaning it has all the installations required for a kitchen. It also has this "pantry" sort of room. I dont have a problem with the pantry, but it is sticking out of the room and it just bugs me. My husband does not want to tear it down and I agree - it is cheaper than installing extra kitchen cabinets. But maybe a relocation or a slight remodeling would make it much better.

Currently it looks like this (without the cabinets) - my biggest problem are the doors opening towards the dining area. Lets call this Original design.

This would be a cheap remodel of the pantry, but the entry would be through the kitchen, maybe make it a bit wider so a peninsula could be added. Lets call this Redesign.

My main concern is the placement of the pantry, entry to the pantry and kitchen layout with the pantry.

Any help is appreciated.

Original
Redesign
No pantry
Burn it to the ground and start over
