you probably have a case of powdery midew Symptoms: Powdery mildew is a fungal disease that affects most cucurbits, and in fact, many other species as well. Infection is first noted as slightly chlorotic spots on leaves. A white powdery appearing "dust" quickly covers the leaf surface, and affected leaves gradually turn brown and papery. Control: Use of resistant varieties and/or preventative fungicide sprays are both important. Since the fungus also infects many weed species, good weed control in and around production fields is important. Disease development is favored by cool, dry weather.

I just found this forum today and the URL to your pic isn't working for me. Anyway, about powdery mildew, if the baking soda mixture didn't work, try neem oil. Neem is great stuff and you can now find in almost any store that has a gardening section. It's approved for organic gardens. You can soak a plant down with it and not burn it. It kills fungus, mites and insects but isn't a poison.

I have a hedge, composed of about 6 holly bushes (I believe it is holly, not totally sure) that always looked great- leaves were dark green and the bush was always thick and full. Today I noticed that the bottom half of these bushes are bare, as if all the leaves fell off. The remaining leaves are now turning yellow, and the tips of many of them are dark brown. I have included a photo. Does anyone know what the culprit may be, and if there is anything I can do to mitigate the problem? Thank you in advance. Image link:

They are pretty big, and they all have several vines. Stupid me planted them too close, though their vibes do have room to spread. It has been a hot and dry season, and temps in the 80s and 90s are pretty typical. The plants finally stopped aborting the fruits, so I have at least 5 pumpkins growing now.
