Yikes! I haven’t been storing them like that, but that’s a good thing to know and pass along. I store my cut avocados in one of those plastic avocado keepers in my fridge, along with the seed.

I’ve been doing this. Guess I’ll stop. Wonder if it makes a difference that I wash the avocado with FIT Vegetable Wash before I cut it?

Why not just eat the whole avocado? :) Bpath, I usually eat an avocado a day...with chips or in a salad. Not a ton of chips because I put a ton of guacamole on one chip.

My husband doesnt eat them, so a whole avocado at once is too much. Maybe over the course of a day, but even that requires storage.

I've had pretty good luck with cutting one in half, then immediately putting it in a small Tupperware type container, with the pit.

I did try that water storage one time but even going back to it the next day it didn't seem right to me - not slimy but not right, so never did it again. I just lay a piece of plastic wrap over it and try to get it in contact with the entire cut around the pit.

@aok27502 my DH won't eat them either and I rarely eat a whole one but have you seen the bags of mini avocados? Those are small enough to eat in one sitting for me but then the whole bag ripens at once and, well you know how that goes!

Hmm, I only know about storing in water for whole, uncut avocados, and that it does work to keep them fresh. That is what the FDA is warning about in the linked article. Putting a cut one in water just seems kind of gross.

IMPE, only the surface browns on a cut one - I just scrape that off and it's fine underneath. I usually use wax paper to wrap cut fruits and veggies.

I also just cut off the brown if I leave it overnight, and it’s usually OK. Little girl kitty has become obsessed with avocados, and if we cut into one, she goes bananas. They can have a little bit of the flesh, but the should not eat the pit or the skin. Lately, the avocados we get are kind of smaller, so that works better.

I do what DLM does and and it works pretty well. My DH doesnt eat them either. I only have to scrape off a bit of brown and it’s fine. I missed the whole water storage thing, or maybe I just ignored it since my way works.

We have an avocado keeper which works pretty well, especially if you squirt a bit of lemon juice on the cut surface of the avocado.  I'm a fan of Sheperd avocados myself- they just seem to last longer.

I stopped storing cut avocados. I find a loss of flavor. Much better to eat the whole thing at once.
