Is it a mistake to put food waste in with leaf bedding?
Comments (43)The reason I put food in in chunks of whole is first off it is the worms job to do the work not mine. Second the moisture is released slowly into the bedding. This should let the right microbes grow just as needed. It is not the thorns of the pineapple that is the issue but putting a lot of it in the bin reminds one that pineapple is a meat tenderizer. How tender do you like your worms? Given enough bedding and an area to escape to non massive amounts of pineapple should be fine....See Moredecorating the laundry room
Comments (34)Sara, you had to know my Mom and Dad they were deep in the Depression era growing up and there was never a day that they replaced anything that was usable with something new. My Dad was 92 in 2002 when he passed and he never spent a dime that he could save. Momma was 88 when she passed 3 yrs later. Her dinner many nights, during the Depression, was hot milk toast that her Mom made when she got home from working at the telephone company in Toledo OH. One year she got an orange for Christmas and was so pleased. So nope Mom would be very happy that it all works just as it always had. I asked an appliance repair person last year and he said not to ever give them up as they will never again make appliances like these...I hope he is right !! Woodlander...can't you clear it all out and fix it quick as I did over a weekend before it fills up again? I am picking up a retro metal pantry cabinet tomorrow from the local "junque" shop for $28 and that is going to hold the rest of my pantry stuff. I sure hope you get it up to what you want , after all we spend a lot of time in there. c...See Moretears today
Comments (30)Yesterday I felt such a block in decision. I think that I needed to explore options again, and really define what I did not like, what I wanted most, and what I could live with and not live with. Yes, I wanted more open space and I want to use the foyer better,(there is furniture in there now...but I will be revisiting it after the remodel to be sure it is used well) The foyer is a high traffic area, but we have also used it for entertaining with temporary seating and it works great. After thinking it through again and weighing the pros and cons... I think the new layout in the existing kitchen is the best way to go. I put masking tape on the floor and lived with it yesterday too. And today, I tried to imagine again my kitchen in the dining room, connected to the living room. It did not feel right to me. This is our relaxing place in the evening. Plus, as I said, this kicks up the total cost much more. I still very much appreciate all of the suggestions and ideas. I'm still telling myself to "breathe". It helped just knowing that you all gave even the most minutiae details such careful attention to your kitchens. Your finished kitchens are some of my inspirations! I realize now that to have the end vision clearer and to define my priorities for the kitchen are essential. I am still going to order the cabinets and try for the remodel sooner rather than later. I realize that it seems that I just began yesterday and want it done asap, but really it has been alot of thinking and planning and research in bits and pieces over time, so that things just weren't coming together as quickly as I wanted it to once I finally had time to get focused on the plan. Sorry I did not answer all of your questions.. I did read and think about all of them... many we had asked ourselves before, so it reinforced that we have given more consideration to things than it seems....See MoreWhat is on your 2020 wish list ?
Comments (86)Well, I advanced two purchases and just picked up a Pinata and Calico Gal from High Country Roses. I picked them both with a bud each so I could see a flower this year. Pinata was the only rose I found that in several descriptions people said it "preferred" shade, not "tolerated" shade. So we shall see.... It isn't the color/size I would have chosen if I had all the colors to choose from in the world but shade performance had to take priority. Calico Gal captivated me one time and I keep eye balling it. Since the stock is so reduced in the fall there wasn't alot to distract me so I decided to just get it and stop wishing for it. It was about 100 degrees here today. But it was hot at the green houses also so I think we'll just pop them in the ground with out hardening them off. I feel like they are likely already hardened. I talked to Matt about Zephirine Drouhin , which he loves, but he said it was like an accordion in Colorado. Some years it was up on his roof and some years, after a bad winter, it had alot of die back. So I'm giving up on it. So my new 2020 wish list is: Love Song maybe Gentle Persuasian (my light colors - Sally Holmes and Golden wings are Japanese Beetle magnets so I really have to think about adding more light roses, Iceberg is not though. Very odd.) maybe Westerland - I have to see the blooms in person first. Tangerine Skies. Looks so beautiful. Would love to see the blooms first. I suspect in the spring I'm going to be back to wanting really hardy roses and trying to not be swayed by gorgeous greenhouse blooms....See MoreOakley
