Spots on Quartz

Does anyone have any ideas what these lighter spots are on my quartz counters? They arent water spots. They are slightly lighter than the rest of the counter

Are you sure they aren't in the material? I know some of these will have whiter inclusions because of the way it's made. I can see an egg shaped right of center.

My wife and I had shopped for months trying to decide between quartz or granite. We settled on Cambria Quartz in Parys blue. We had seen small samples of our color but never a complete slab. When our slabs were ready to be cut, we were notified that there were black spots throughout the slabs. We drove the 60 miles to see what they were talking about. There were dime size black splotches throughout the slabs and was told this is normal for our color. This was the first we had heard of this. This was unacceptable and decided to wait for the next shipment to arrive in a month or 2. So the new tops have not come in yet and we are not sure what will happen when they arrive. My biggest fear is that all the countertops will have flaws in them which will lead us to maybe switching to granite. We had no idea that there would be flaws in quartz countertops. The big selling point for quartz is the no sealing and the uniform consistency between slabs of the same color.

MizLizzie, It is very nice of you to share the issue with Cambria since we are thinking about using man-made hard surface for kitchen counter in the upcoming kitchen remodel. The incompetent fabricator messed up counter top edge and sink cut out in our hall bath. I have no confidence in him of redoing the counter top, I worry if he would make things worse by damaging connected backsplash, cabinet, faucet and sink. It has been two months; the poor work still bothers me so I know I would never be able to accept it. We too have demanding jobs and frequent business travels. We are trying to find the best time slot for the rework. Congratulations for your childÃ¢ÂÂs college graduation. Ours finished his graduate school last May. After the ceremony, we parents congratulated one another and jokingly shared the tips of calculating pay back rate for the bailout loans we provided. It was a lot of fun. MSI quartz quality- really bad??

Here's the kitchen we have that I posted a few years back. MSI Quartz Carrarra Grigio has held up really really well. Cleans easily, no stains, no fuss. We just use a damp cloth, and clean up with an all purpose cleaner. Once in a while, maybe some diluted bleach. https://www.houzz.com/discussions/3576931/ikea-sektion-reveal

By "quartz" do you mean engineered stone or quartzite please? If engineered stone, you're probably going to have to get someone who is familiar with Quartz Renew. If you look at your tops as ruined, you can probably try it yourself, but I wouldn't recommend it. If it's quartzite, or a marble imitating quartzite, a local stone restoration professional can save you.

For somw reason it uploads the picture blurry unless you click it. if you look by that little squiggly gray line you can see them. There are a bunch of slightly ligher white blotches. its almost like something was spilled and bleached it out

That egg shaped one is one of them. its hard to tell in the picture but there are probably 30+ of those in a 2ft by 1ft section and other areas have none.. its definitely in the quartz but it seems odd looking since there are so many in one spot and other large sections are flawless.

Im not sure if i buy the feature and not a bug arguement. the pieces from the other slab have none on them and the majority of them, probably 30+, are concentrated in a 2x1 section. now if they were spaced out id say yea sure feature, but the fact rhat half my counters have 0 and the other half has the majority of the concentrated in one section id go with bug. but im not sure what it is, is it a resin pool? they almost look like bleach spots

Just want to confirm that I can see the spots when I enlarge the photo. They appear to be faint and look like bleach spots, as you say. If you can't live with it, you'll have to contact your fabricator to see what can be done.

Look at the spots with low level light to determine whether or not the finish on the top is the same please. If the finish changes, it's more likely the spots were created after the slab was produced.

Whats weird is the spots seem to have the same base look to them with the material and the finish appears to be the same. The only think that appears different is the shade of white. It woulnt look bad if they were more spaced out, a few other areas have one here or there. Its just that one section has so many of them condensed like something splattered there. its not bleach, or at least from us, but it appears to be within the slab itself.
