These plants complement each other Pavani but, you need to take sunlight requirements into consideration. Roses need full sun (more than 4 hours of sun) but tolerate part shade (4 hours or less of sun). Azaleas and hydrangeas need part shade but dislike getting too much sun in Texas and will quickly let you know. All three do best when grown in acidic soil. Roses are the most sensitive to fertilizers. Hydrangeas do not react as much to fertilizer applications and azaleas do not need fertilizing if your soil is fine. You do not identify the varieties of hydrangea that you got so my comments will be general in nature. Do not worry about blooms or lack thereof on your first year. All plants will concentrate on getting a root system established above all else. Even roses do that some times. Besides, it is possible that your plant bloomed already and the blooms got cut off by the nursery or wholesaler. If you have a variety that reblooms, it will take a break and bloom again. Varieties that only bloom on old wood will start bloomage in early May. This set of flowers will stay with the shrub until fall. Do not panic about the hail damage either. I had some summer storms 3 years ago where hail damaged a crape myrtle that provided shade for a hydrangea. The hydrangea leaves were also affected but they all recovered. I did have to provide temporary shade for the hydrangea but that was it. While the plant mix is fine but be aware that azaleas can be poisoned by high levels of aluminum sulphate. And to prevent fungal infections, allow for some separation between plants to maintain good airflow. This will help minimize the changes of leaf spot in hydrangeas/azaleas or black spot/powdery mildew in the roses. Remember some of these plants that you have can get large so check the size at maturity in the plant label. If the hydrangea or rose bush can get 6'x6' then allow for that & some extra space for air flow. Size at maturity means at 10yrs and all of your plants will live longer than that and therefore will get taller/wider than that. Right now, just provide the hydrangeas with constant soil moisture. The potting soil probably already contains fertilizer pellets so do not bother fertilizing this year. Hydrangeas should be fed about 1/2 cup of manure or cottonseed meal in May and July only. During the growing season, you can also apply liquid fish (fish emulsion), liquid seaweed and/or coffee grounds. All fertilizers should be discontinued by the start of August, more or less, so the plant prepares to go dormant in the Fall. Azaleas need no fertilizers and will feed off the decomposing mulch. If your soil happens to need nutrients, you can apply some cotton seed meal or Holly-tone around May but now is getting to be late. After July starts, minimize fertilizer applications of azaleas so the tender new growth will not be killed by winter cold temperatures and dry winds. Roses are a different whole ball game. They react quickly to amendments and fertilizers. But they also utilize the ingredients NPK in your fertilizers at different times of their growth and blooming cycles. Unless you are dedicated rose grower or rose junkie, you should now reduce the amount of fertilizers by half but continue applying them every four weeks. You can use a slow-release general purpose fertilizer with a NPK Ratio of around 6-12-6 or cottonseed meal. Stop fertilizing about 45 days before the first frost date in your area. All three plants need to be mulched. I suggest using any type of acidic mulch and add about 3-4" up to the drip line. Does that help you, Pavani? Luis

Thanks everyone, I've been working really hard on the garden this year and it's nice to see the roses so happy. The rain has been an issue and the blackspot is creeping in. I hppe I can keep it under control. Carol and Sharlene you are totally right, I have Rock & Roll not Rock n Roll. So confusing to me, all of these & or 'n' roses lol. My St. Patrick came from a local nursery and when I saw it he was covered in huge green buds. I had to take him home and he has become one of my favorite impulse buy roses. I do get to the ground die back in winter but so far he keeps coming back. Sara-Ann yeah I don't see pink freedom very often but I also enjoy the blooms very much. Believe it or not that was a scrawny body bag rose from 2012! Most of my roses have bloomed atleast once this year but I am still waiting on probably 10 or so new ones planted this year for their first blooms. Wow !! Yours is the most healthy & beautiful bush. So pretty, how do you fertilize it for such amazing colors? Local rose park's bi-color roses look really bad after rain, like spotty colors on Double Delight and Easter Basket. Not sure if it's their fertilizer high in phosphorus, or our day-long rain.
