Crown Gall on new band?
Comments (13)KS, Oh no, that might make it confusing for RVR to figure out if its MN or Reve d'Or that is susceptible to the gall. I will do as you say and get rid of pot, dirt, and plant and take a few more pics just in case. I ordered the MN band from RVR initially, because RPN was initially out of MN, once they got it back in stock I ordered another one from them and that came with flowers on it and RPN is the same place I got my original MN thats healthy, so I trust them. I am encouraged that you got reimbursed. Last time RVR sent me the wrong plant, they finally said they would send out the correct one and never did. I just gave up after that. Its been awhile since I ordered from them but I did get Little Grey Pearl from them last year and it was correct so took a chance on MN. If it had turned out to be a disease free, Reve d'Or, I would not have been mad about that! Its a beautiful rose and on my list..just not gonna get it from there now lol. Its a shame because they have so many good roses in their catalog. roseseek, thanks for the explanation. I love that you and others on this foum are so willing to teach. I feel like I'm always learning. I will not be keeping this since anything that comes of it would be more susceptible to gall. Right now, Ive been lucky, not having it. Jeri, that's very sad about Heirloom Old Garden Roses having gall in all the roses you purchased. That is very scary! I am not going to get a replacement from RVR, its too stressful wondering if the gall would show up....See MoreCrown gall wisdom sought
Comments (7)When I found gall on a rooted band I had ordered and put in the ground (I had no idea what gall was at the time) I turned to this forum for advice. At that point, the band had been in the ground for several months. What I ended up doing was digging it out, making sure I got every last speck of root, digging up all of the soil around it and below it for another foot just to make sure, bagging the soil and the plant, doused that completely with bleach and disposed of it. Then I dumped bleach in the hole, and left the hole open and fallow for the winter. The next spring, I filled the hole with soil and compost and planted a perennial in its spot. A new rose went in a foot or so from the giant hole. I haven’t had any issues since. To my knowledge we don’t have gall in this area, so that problem definitely came with the band through the mail. I was determined not to add another plague to worry about to the garden, and so maybe went a little overboard. But (knock on wood) it seems to have worked out okay....See MoreIs this crown gall?
Comments (2)Yup, I agree with Seil. I just dealt with this on a rose I was attempting to transplant. I cut into the growth and it looked like cauliflower inside - a whitish/cream/yellow color. I removed the rose and the soil and will leave the space vacant or plant something else in it's spot. Doesn't feel good especially if a rose that you love that's not currently available to replace.
