What's the Best Pool Furniture for Salt Water Pool Deck??
Comments (1)Hi! We're also looking at a contemporary style pool in the Cypess area. A Link to a thread is at the bottom of this message We're having a similar dilemma to you trying to find someone that specializes in contemporary designs. Of the builder's you've listed I know the Pool Man has a very good reputation locally. Other names that appear to be coming up consistently as good builders are: Cypress Custom Pools Best Backyard Pools Atlantis Pools Hipp Pools Perry Pools Cypress Custom Pools and Best Backyard pools both have some more contemporary pools on their websites but like I said all the names above seem to have a really good reputation round here Hope that helps a little, sorry i can't give my personal experience as we're in the same phase as you and have just started looking at the moment....See MoreSpiral Staircase for outside deck
Comments (5)@John Hyatt - I'm currently shopping for one myself and considering the Iron Shop (Trexspiralstairs.com) - it's the same entity. After you review, I'm reconsidering. Would greatly appreciate your advice and any pics you have as well. How may I find an excellent welder who builds spiral stairs in my area (Northern VA) as you indicated this is the way to go? Thank you!...See MoreNew IPE Deck
Comments (4)1) Yes, you can, and most people do countersink the 1x6 boards without problem. 2) All I can tell you is that I am one who did not bother sealing cut ends and I can't tell the difference. In hindsight I probably would have cut off the wax on the ends of the boards before installing because you can see those marks once you stain, but they fade after a few years. Not a bid deal either way. 3) TWP 116 has both UV protection and mold inhibitor. That being said from what I have seen there is no perfect stain for Ipe. If you want a nicely stained deck you will be doing at least every other year on the horizontals. I used the TWP 116 and have no regrets, but it faded after a year and needed to be resealed after 2. I also occasionally get mold spots on some of the railing. 4) No advice really, but I would also be tempted if I could save that much. riles...See MoreSmall deck help 4x6
Comments (15)A concrete pad would cost far more than building a nice deck, so I'm not sure what you are comparing that too. Thank you for your suggestion, but it, as I've said, makes no sense for our home and our needs. You buy a fixer upper as you pay less than market value and spend the money you "save" to make the necessary repairs to make it equivalent to those in the neighborhood. The point of putting expensive wood in a fixer upper is this is our home. We hope to live here for at least another 50-60 years and it will look very nice next to the $$$ DIY kitchen we just installed, which will complement the $$$ Marvin windows we are now buying which will some day look very nice with new siding, a second story, completely redone interior and new driveway as we plan to DIE in this house as it is our home. I am not looking to go cheap doing DIY. I am looking to spend the money on quality materials and to be honest, if I could pay someone to put in this deck I would as I don't feel like doing it. We called a few places and got blown off as no one wants a small job. We had the same problem moving duct work and doing other minor things so, we learn to do them ourselves, just like we will the deck. I am not looking at cheap or to flip this house, I am making this house my home and lovingly restoring it, which the support of my neighbors and the original owners family. Even if I flipped the house, I can get what I put into this home back given the area we live in. This isn't about money - this is about the best quality materials in a dark "wood" color. Thank you very much John for your help - you've been really helpful!...See Moreanj_p
