So now it's peanut butter
Comments (29)I think a lot of things are being recalled, they aren't necessarily tainted but I think it's wise to not take a chance on them. That's why Kellogg's recalled their Keebler crackers and cookies before any product was found that was a problem. I know they found a package of the Austin brand peanut butter and cheese crackers with that strain of salmonella here in Michigan in Kalamazoo. My own favorite, Peter Pan Honey Roasted was the subject of a salmonella recall a couple of years ago, but Peter Pan has issued a press release stating that they don't get any of their peanut products from the company in question, so I'm happily eating that. I don't know about Jif, Skippy, etc. I very seldom buy the prepackaged cookies, crackers, etc., but I bought some of the Keelber cheese crackers with peanut butter for Bud and Makayla and called Amanda and told her to throw them away. I'll replace them with just plain cheese crackers or something, they were for Makayla's lunches at school. Annie...See MoreJIF Peanut Butter
Comments (18)I often get Skippy ... or Kraft, but have a bottle of Jif in the cupboard (son loves Jif) and I went to check it. No hint of an expiry date on the bottle. But there's a piece of masking tape on the edge of the lid with "Feb '06" written on it. I don't recall being the authour of that story ... but probably I was. I usually store peanut butter in the kitchen, or in the basement, sometimes have a jar or two in the fridge. I've had peanut butter go rancid in the heat of the summer. Peanuts, also. And almonds. ole joyful...See MorePeanut Butter Treats/ Pets Smart -Recall
Comments (6)The FDA list seems to grow every day, so we've decided to follow their recommendation of January 19 and have stopped eating all foods containing pb. We also have a bag of WalMart's Ol Roy assorted flavor dog biscuits, one of which is pb, and we're not going to give them to our dogs at least until this whole peanut thing ends. I just don't want to eat something with pb today just because it isn't on the list today, but gets put on the list tomorrow. BTW, the list has a couple of Trader Joe's snack bars (human type) on it. I can live without pb, so this is not like a huge sacrifice to me, and I'm playing it safe with our dogs, too. Here is a link that might be useful: FDA news release...See Moreget your peanut butter!!
Comments (20)Ah, the lowly peanut. I remember reading a book in grammar school about genius George Washington Carver, who discovered hundreds of uses for peanuts. Then our president Jimmy Carter was a peanut farmer. I went to my local store today and bought one jar of Peter Pan roasted honey creamy peanut butter. For breakfast I dipped apple wedges in PB. Delicious! But the peanut butter did cost $2.99. It had been around two bucks. And I must end with a funny story about my late hoarder Mother, who bought 2 jars of peanut butter because it was on sale 2 jars for $5. Then she went to another store that had the same deal and got 2 more. What does a blind 87 year old woman with no teeth need with 4 jars of peanut butter? In all my life, I never ever saw her eat peaniut butter. Her hoarding went back to the 1960's , when Dad was unemployed and she had to feed a family of six....See Moreccrunneroklahoma
