Defining color palette and style for living/dining rooms

Hello! We're moving to a new home soon and wanted to get some insights about how to choose a color palette and style for the living room and dining room (both rooms are connected to the kitchen, which faces the dining area). The hardwood floor is very dark, I'm struggling to combine colors, I thought of a light colored rug and a statement chair, but not sure about the wood color for furniture. We've bought the Crate & Barrel Axis sectional 2 seats/1 chaise Douglas fabric in ice (pic is from the store) and we have an Industrial coffee table West Elm in cafe color (open to replace it - we bought it as a dining alternative in a small apartment!). We have a baby and a small dog and we like clean, modern, minimalist, comfortable styles and upholstered chairs. I've attached the kitchen/living room/dining room pics for reference. Any insights are appreciated!

Hopefully you measured before purchasing the sectional. I also think the TV is going to be high over the FP. Measurements of the room would help. Post them. Looks like the sectional color is going to blend into the wall color. Do you have any art to use as a jumping off point? So either get a piece of art for the living area or a rug and use the colors for inspiration.

To discover your style, put in top HOUZZ search box different styles (one at a time). Examples include modern, eclectic, transitional, or casual. That coffee table looks modern to me. I like it but I don't like the industrial description. I agree that a piece of art can be an inspiration.

My first question is What is your favorite color? You have excellent neutrals that could work with any color. If you love the cool gray green of Farrow and Ball's french gray I say go for that color. That is a color that can compliment many different colors from the gold warm tan drapes to a fire hot red chair or a deep green alligator. Go with what you like and you will be amazed that it works. If you think the Farrow and Ball French Gray is a little too green based you might consider another FB paint called Light also by FB French Gray FB Light by Farrow and Ball I like mixing cool and warm in different venues for drama. Obviously not all the colors but keeping it simple to two basic hues and working with them is ideal. You have one small wall behind your china cabinet that you could paint in a gold tan to match the drapes but the rest of the walls the Blue gray Farrow and ball you are thinking of would be perfect. Here are some combinations of gray blue and tan that look stunning. Please clarify this statement... "I like more war, colors like the beige or light tan to coordinate with each other." Also it is hard to recommend colors without some idea of the space and how the rooms relate to each other. Do you have a floor plan, sketch or pictures that you can post to help us give you ideas? Whole house open concept or 3 separate rooms with doors or clearly defined separations for different colors of paint. Also what color & type of flooring, furniture, cabinets, rugs, art etc... Groveraxle’s rug is lovely. Now to find something in the Netherlands :) Unfortunately I have no access to my desktop computer at the moment and I’m kinda lost on my iPad, so no posting pictures for me. You could take a look at loods5, for example, or vloerkledenwinkel.nl (huge stock), Muuto has some nice rugs, and I always love the black-and-white stripe from IKEA. You’ll probably need 1.70 x 2.40. If you use round end tables, use a rectangular or square coffee table. Printed drapes in the dining room are fine with solid drapes in the living area. For your chairs, I would stick to green/camel OR red/camel. You can keep your sofa as the one red item in the room and just use touches of red in art or accessories. Or get a cream or green slipcover for the sofa and just work with the green and camel colors.

Agree start with a piece of art. You can then go to paint store and find color papers for several colors you like in art. Then you can see other shades on the color papers , lighter and darker, that could inspire your choices.
