bluesunflower, I have only the one Sarah in that bed. It sits beside peony 'Bowl of Beauty'. Sarah is a large bush with an abundance of flowers. I have tried using peony hoops, branches, stakes to individual stems to help hold up their heads. Have had no success. I enjoy them for the brief while they are present and hope for no rain (just for a week or so). You may be able to see a few of the remaining blossoms of 'Bowl of Beauty'. Photos of them can be seen in an earlier post. The foliage remains that fresh crisp green until the frost gets to it. After the flowers are gone it becomes simply a background plant.

WOW. I am just getting into these, though my mom has loved them for years. Is this the shrub type? I think I prefer them because the tree types I have do not get many flowers, maybe two if I am lucky, and the tree itself is not very attractive. They were here when I moved in so I need to learn how to care for them. As for the bush types, I have 3, 2 white and one light pink. They are blooming now, and I have so many flowers that I have them all over the house and can still enjoy them outside! I love the shade of pink on your plant, do you mind sharing where you got it?

I am just starting to buy peony plants so I thought I would share with you that Sarah Berhardt is a late bloomer. This is what I found. 'Sarah Bernhardt' peony bears globe-shaped, double blossoms that fade from pale pink to soft blush on the outer petals and are occasionally flecked with carmine. When properly planted, herbaceous peonies, whose foliage dies back each fall, remain productive for decades. They are among the few perennials that don't require division, in fact, they resent disturbance. Peonies bloom from late spring to early summer for about 2 weeks; these bloom times are designated as early, mid, and late season. Free-flowering 'Sarah Bernhardt' is a late-season bloomer.
