Healthy Eating, Weight Loss & Fitness Progress Week of 5/29
Comments (89)Very depressing middle of the week. First, I had to "purge" for a colonoscopy. So on Wed. I only was allowed to drink, and my calorie intake was under 300. Then the day of the procedure, I only ate 916 calories, so my two-day total was just over 1200. And yet when I stepped on the scale this morning, I had gained almost two pounds, erasing almost three weeks of dieting. I know it is just a temporary spike, but of all times, this would not seem to be the day I would spike like that. It is also depressing that weeks of dieting can be erased in two days. Imagine if I had eaten a lot those two days! It just drives home the point to me that it is going to be very difficult for me to lose a lot more weight and keep it off. I'm happy I stopped gaining and my clothes still fit, but I really wanted to lose about ten more lbs . . . and keep it off. It's clearly not my calorie consumption . . . I also got depressing news on the gut end. Well actually not just the end, the whole GI system. I have acid reflux, even though I had no symptoms, but it has affected my esophagus. I have gastric ulcers (probably payback from using so much NSAIDs for migraine) and diverticulosis. So my diet is going to have to be even more restricted. I am very hesitant to start taking acid reducing pills every single day. It seems so extreme. But I can't imagine limiting my diet much more. Well, for now, out totally with caffeine and alcohol, no spicy foods, but tomatoes onions and garlic? I don't eat huge amounts of them, but I love Italian and other Mediterranean food and they are pretty ubiquitous for that . . . The treatment for diverticulosis is to eat more fiber, which I can hardly imagine since I eat whole grains and beans and vegetables and fruit every single day . . . more greens, boo rah! I love greens thankfully. It's just one more frustrating thing in my life....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 3/5
Comments (17)GS sounds great-- I had more beans this week too and I will keep that up. I like them and they are sooo filling! And thanks for mentioning facials, massages etc .. your post encouraged me to use self care kinda things for "treats".. the next bunch of weeks are going to be a strain and my birthday is in April. I will definitely be wanting treats and rewards that are not food! I think I may get some new sneakers too-- I have been wanting to try the On Cloud sneakers ever since I bought my niece a pair in Oct. Sue, great roadtrip options! Hope you have a great trip! Is this the weekend in PA? I had actually thought about going into Phila today but nixed that when the temps plummeted. Among other things, I wanted to go to the Weitzman museum downtown to choose another trovelore pin for my jean jacket. Instead, I will make a pot of soup today -- not sure what as yet. I have to consult the pantry and go from there. I am also going to do some shopping for tops and/or jewelry to up my video game. I have been doing 5-6 interviews a week and I have been looking blah. i want to perk up my look!...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 5/28/2023
Comments (25)As some may have seen on another thread, I traveled to Atlanta this last week so my exercise routine was pretty wrecked for half the week. Over last holiday weekend I spent so many hours doing yard work on top of my usual exercise, so hopefully that made up for it. And one of my days in Atlanta involved a ton of walking through a museum and the aquarium, so that was hopefully beneficial. I am also happy to report that I did not get any gluten sickness on my trip which felt like a big win. But most importantly, the summer only swimming pool is now open for 50m outdoor swimming in the mornings! I'm really hoping they haven't sold out most of the pool to a swim team again like last year. The 50m is more of a workout since you're pushing off from the wall less frequently and I can definitely feel it after each session. I need to get back into my summer routine of cardio in the morning and weights at lunch time since I've been slacking off a bit on the weight lifting. On the weight loss front I think I'm still hovering about where I was in the winter. Maybe down a pound. So maintaining, but I'd like to lose a few more again in the summer to be back where I was at the end of last summer. On a side note, I'm terribly photo phobic and hate having people take photographs of me without my control. Apparently our company photographer snapped a picture of me during our in person company event and the CEO decided that was the photo he would send out to our entire company in his weekly email. Ugh. I am grateful that my immediate reaction wasn't "Oh no, I look fat!" but I still wasn't very happy with how I looked. I wish I could get comfortable with how I look in pictures....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 10/22/2023
Comments (7)@gsciencechick - the program I joined this month refers to "informed" intuitive eating - knowing why you are craving sweets, or not being able to go more than 2 hours between meals without getting hangry so you can fix it. I don't know the exact definition of intuitive eating, but in the end I understood their idea to mean - listen closely to your body, but try to get it to eventually tell you the right thing :) I love the NSVs - looking and feeling good. I travel far to get my hair cut, so usually I only make it a couple times a year - very strange, but that's how it's been working out. Last week I got the BEST haircut, so that's a win for sure. It is great to feel good in your body and your clothes. My travels went ok. Not quite as much exercise as usual, but lots of steps. I wore my jeans for the second time this season and they are not any looser. Thought maybe I was losing some in my waist, I feel less bloated with all of this additional fiber, but no go there. I came back several pounds up as usual, but am down a couple this morning. Trying to get back on track. My schedule is pretty free through the end of the year, so I hope to make some weight lifting progress. Still considering joining a gym as the weather gets cooler. This is the same podcast host we linked last week - but he had another great guest. This one talking about the benefits of walking - not just on physical health, but mental health, problem solving, focus, job performance etc. I found it interesting and motivating. Sometimes it's easy to get caught in the weeds of weight loss, but often it comes down to the basics. The guest was Irish as well - so fun listening! Walking Podcast I live in a very walkable area - to walk my dog or get a stroll in, but I can't walk to the store or to run errands, or to dinner. I would love to live somewhere like that. I think it's such a great lifestyle....See MoreFunkyart
