Hickory branch end buds getting freeze killed

At least I think this is the issue. For the third spring in a row the end buds of a shellbark Hickory have gotten freeze killed. They were still closed but expanding some when we had a bit below freezing for a couple days in April. A Shagbark beside had trouble only one of three seasons. Supposedly they are both good for the zone here.

Will the tree adapt, or is it a problem? I am thinking of replacing it with a Hickory type more northern hardy.
