The race is on...who will bloom first?

Who is the first to bloom in your garden this spring? My overwintered roses are just starting to form their first buds, so I thought I'd start a thread for us to enjoy the anticipation of blooms for the cold zoners, and the warm zoners probably already have blooms opening by now.

In my garden it's a race between Mountain Music, Sweet Mademoiselle, White Licorice, Pascali, and Moonlight in Paris to see who will bloom first out of the roses that were in the ground over winter.

Cheater blooms also welcome....here's 'Be My Baby', a new miniature in my garden this year which arrived with a couple of buds forming. It has a very mild fragrance but excellent tolerance for awful weather both hot and cold.

Joey: I love the color of your mini "Be my Baby". My cheater blooms are from the 6 Roses Unlimited gallon received April 27. They are: Climbing Crimson Glory, Yolande d' Aargon, Summer Sun, Firefighter (Kiss me Kate and Ardoise de Lyon don't come with blooms). I'm most impressed with Yolande d'Aargon bloom with the BEST SCENT that I have sniffed among my 150 fragrant own-root roses. The scent is so powerful that it lingers on my face for 15 min. after sniffing:

I'm pretty jazzed too--I have blooms, but totally consider it "cheating" because they're all on my newly arrived/planted roses (all of whom came from warmer climates and had a head start). Doesn't mean I don't enjoy them, though! Particularly Harison's Yellow, it's got one long-lasting gorgeous yellow bloom hanging off the end of skinny cane, and plenty more buds in development. Carefree Sunshine is blooming (love it too), Prairie Harvest is blooming, Carefree Beauty has pumped out some flowers, Quietness has a big fat bud ready to open, Anne Boleyn (Austin) is blooming her fool head off--never seen such a small rose with so many buds ready to go. Sally Holmes is also outdoing herself. I can't take credit for any of them blooming so nicely, but my "already here" roses are nicely leafed out and starting to form flower buds, so I do take credit for THAT.

Judy, you know full well that you are among fellow addicts when it comes to buying plants. And I so love the English roses...just be sure to give them plenty of room. They will need it. Vel, it is a record for me, that is for sure. It was one I got in the fall from Bill Maryott, but no way was able to resist taking pictures of those three together. Thanks Cindy, all of my early clematis are covered in buds. They are hapopy with the strange weather. Rebecca is a true red in my garden...same color as my monitor, and the blooms are large. All wonderful, Sean! I must get Chartreuse de Parme! My garden seems very late this year because of all the blooming going on everywhere else. Being in the northern USA, I'm usually on par with the Canadians, climate wise. My patience is running thin. Altorama, I am in awe that your MAC can grow that big. My house sits at such an angle, that I don't have any true N,S,E or W sides. If I plant her on the most easterly side, she will be keeping company with the generator, chicken feed bins, etc. Maybe it's time to beautify that area. Sheila, I REALLY like your Gen. Schablikine. A lot!
