Great advice! I learned that lesson first hand when helping my husband paint the kitchen walls in his old house. He wanted a pale blue color to coordinate with some gray-blue in the formica counters, and chose a Ralph Lauren color called "mystic river" that I'm convinced he chose because of the name (though he denied it). I was worried it would look like a nursery for a baby boy, and it did. It looked terrible for a kitchen. We sold that house shortly after we got married, and I noticed the new owners brought in beige paint chips during the walk through and were looking at them in the kitchen. I think the first they did after they closed on the house was re-paint the kitchen ;)

I dont see where you need lighting in the kitchen, other then I hope there is a light in the pantry. If you had to pick a style what would it be? farmhouse? traditional? As to the bathroom, what will the medicine cabinets look like? keep in mind the door swings. so nothing hanging as there is not much clearance there. What will the faucets look like, shape and finish?
