Hi The glass is from entrance doors from a remodeled building. Got them free which is what inspired me lol. I feel the glass will be more than strong enough since it can't be more than 24 inches deep. in aquariums they use half or 5/8. Was going to use 3/4 marine plywood for the rest of the box with a built in stand to raise it above the ground. Was thinking between 24 to 36 inches wide. Would like to put it directly on the ground but concerned with "settling' . A footing would waste so much space underneath. I setup a standard 150 gallon aquarium in the shadehouse using crushed lava rock as a base. Has worked for two years now and seems to be staying level. Only problem has been that the rock sticks to your shoes.. Of course this setup will be at least twice as much weight!!. Thanks for the help gary

Planting a rhodie anywhere near a pool isn't a good idea. Especially an inground pool which I take it that is there because you have children. So easy to break branches by errant play not to mention the presence of, overspill/cannonball spray, new concrete (perhaps as an edging) or rock/ compacted grass) let alone a pool typically being sited in a sunny spot. What's your purpose in wanting to 'shield' the pool?? If it's from neighbors you have the rest of the yard. If it's to 'cover' the side walls of the pool, I don't have an answer for you this morning. I just don't think that it's a very good or well thought out idea. Granted, your query could have been better described as to goals, location, etc. but planting rhodies because you love them (don't we all?) sounds like forcing a plant into the wrong space.

DE will scatter. Sand is the better choice. Mix a little Portland cement too. Scott

I consider lilacs to be small trees. For starters, you might look at things like ornamental grasses. Many of these grow fast and give a nice air to the pool environment. Also check the the forum that applies to your geographical area as many of those folks are knowledgeable about specific plants for your area.
